HEAD TO HEAD: A brief history of Town's clashes with Colchester
THERE is nothing to separate Town and Colchester based on the teams’ historical encounters.
The sides have met on 71 occasions, both winning 28 times and sharing 15 draws.
In the majority of encounters over the last decade, a single goal has been the difference, this being the case in the most recent encounter in October, when former County Ground full-back Michael Rose hit the winner.
These close games have been a far cry from Swindon’s record win against a U’s, a 6-1 thrashing back in 1963.
John Stevens smashed in a hat-trick and Ernie Hunt notched a brace following Mike Summerbee’s opener.
Colchester had already bagged their record win over the Robins seven years earlier, a 5-0 thumping in Essex, but Swindon got their own back in style.
