SWINDON TOWN: Cheltenham release statement regarding Pack transfer

Marlon Pack remains a Cheltenham player for now Marlon Pack remains a Cheltenham player for now

CHELTENHAM Town have this morning released a statement addressing the state of play of Marlon Pack's proposed move to Swindon Town.

The deal, along with loan bids for Danny Green and Bradley Wright-Phillips, did not receive Football League ratification last night.

Cheltenham's statement reads: "We would like to clarify the situation regarding the reported transfer of Marlon Pack to Swindon Town.

"A deal was agreed between both clubs last night which would see Marlon Pack join Swindon Town on loan with a permanent move in the summer involving a fee. The deal would also see Swindon's Luke Rooney join Cheltenham Town on an end of season loan. Terms were agreed, a medical was complete but the Football League refused Swindon Town any new registrations due to their current situation and the deal has fallen through.

"It is important that we stress everything was completed correctly and successfully here at Cheltenham Town FC. The lack of Football League ratification for Swindon Town means that Marlon Pack remains a Cheltenham Town player and Luke Rooney will not be joining the club on loan at this stage.

"Emergency loans will be allowed from next week and we will remain in discussions with Swindon Town and the Football League.

"Thank you for your patience."

Now please can STFC release a statement so the fans can understand what is going on? Not too much to ask for is it?

Watkins has said on the radio that no transfers can be completed until the F/L have ratified the takeover. Once this is done then we can sign players from next Friday.

Cheltenham showing STFC how to PR manage such a situation and keeping their fans informed - even if at high level. The silence form STFC is deafening!

Thanks Stilloyal but due to the fact I live in Oxfordshire and the useless radio statement being lost (I happened to have a day off work yesterday) I haven't heard anything. There are many supporters like myself who live out of the county and wish the club would remember that. Does this mean we will still get the three we want then? Is PDC OK with the situation (he is our key) - many questions to be answered to hard core supporters.

Our club could let us know whether they were aware of the situation with the Football League or not. It could have been a clever move to keep these player targets out of the clutches of rival clubs (if there were any) by apparently signing the deals yesterday and lodging the paperwork. Or it could just be incompetence. Believe as you wish.

Like many i live outside the area in fact about 80 miles but pick up the radio but the fact that other fans cant or dont listen to the radio this club has been absolutley uselss since JW went on informing fans what ia going on.

So will other clubs come in and pinch any of these players for the loan window next week if they do something else that will wind us up and more to the point our manager. Danny Green had alot of clubs after him so lets hope they all still sign next week.

This is no surprise surely. Guess it was hoped this would be ratified in time for the deals to go through. The big question is how long will it take for the FL to ratify the takeover deal? If it means that they ensure the deal is solid and the new owners have the financial means required then its worth the wait. Why do people immediately have to talk incompetence? Too much negativity.

Because it has to be one or the other. 'Incompetence' was mentioned at the same time as suggesting the club could have been quite smart in what it did. So half-full and half-empty at the same time.

Us fans have no idea how to run a football club, you might say the new owners don't either, i take the other view, the signings have been registered, all medicals done so one the FA approve our new owners (assuming they do) they 3 players will come our way no problem......... thats what i THINK anyway

The problem is that the outbound owner doesn't give two hoots and the inbound owners aren't the owners yet and any statements would probably be seen as inflammatory to the football league - or viewed that they could be....they're probably involved in a lot of other business and will sort it as soon as they are confirmed officially by the FL.

My understanding of the transfers is that they could be allowed to go through in their current guise if the sale is approved.....worst case is that we will have to wait until next Friday to get them.

There is a very brief statement on the STFC club website which was issued at 00:08 stating:
SWINDON Town will not be adding to the squad despite agreeing terms, completing medicals and signing three players.

The Football League have at this stage refused any new registrations and the deals cannot be completed.

How many times do you have to be told that the takeover has to be ratified by the football league, before we can sign players.
As for bad PR. Who would you like to make a comment then ? Mr Black is selling the club so why should he ?
The consortium does not yet own the club, so naturally are unable to comment.
Just be patient for a few more days.

Frustrating, yes, but this is not the worst case senario. The football league should be seen to be helping clubs, which they do not. The transfers have not happened because of the football league, but what if the football league do not ratify the takeover. We are in a nightmare senario then. Will they do it, who knows, can they do it, absolutely. Its as though they run football, but hate football clubs.

Well it surprised me. The club is a going concern and not in administration. When I. Buy a house and exchange contractsI can take responsibility for the insurance policy too. What's up here? if I were stfc I would look closely at the legal wordings.

I now beleve this deal is smoke screens and mirrors

I Remember sheff utd back in 2000 presented a Malaysian business man as the new buyer turned out he was a no mart just bought in to buy the chairman Reg Brealey more time

Can't see FA sanctioning Jeds takeover when he remains chairman of another club in the pyramid system

Richie deal still bemused as we had to sell to avoid administration but tried to sign 3 players next day

Club saying nothing only corespondent s via cheltnham

I am not PDC biggest fan as I feel he to has wasted a lot of money but to his credit team perform on a sat and he can't be faulted as any manager needs funds to be signed of by the board but at present I think he is the only person at the club telling the truth

Think they are trying to get TV game out of the way to avoid more unessesary coverage then we are in for a bumpy ride next week
