SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio reveals Rooney exit talks
4:30pm Monday 28th January 2013 in Sport
PAOLO Di Canio is hopeful Luke Rooney can secure a move away from the County Ground in the coming days.
The winger, signed from Gillingham last January, has fallen out of favour with the Swindon Town manager and has spent time out on loan at Burton and Rotherham this season.
With the transfer window set to slam shut on Thursday time is limited if Di Canio is going to find Rooney a new club, but he revealed this afternoon that talks are taking place with an unnamed club which could result in the 22-year-old spending the rest of the term elsewhere.
“Luke Rooney we will see because there is an interesting situation and we will see if we can sort out for him to move in this place in the next few hours,” said the Robins boss.
“We can still work in some way, but in the next few hours or few days or I hope less, we can have a clear situation for us about the board and the club.
“With him, in the way we are talking at the moment it is until the end of the season. We can’t completely make a deal in every direction we want because we have to be sure about what is going on for our club.”
Meanwhile, Di Canio also hopes Lee Cox can find another side before the end of the window. A proposed return to Oxford fell through earlier this month as the League Two side were unwilling to pay the percentage of the midfielder’s wages that Town wanted.
“There was an approach a few days ago,” said Di Canio. “Everything is calm, there is not more news but I think it is another situation that we can sort out in the next few hours or few days.”
