SWINDON TOWN: Snow stopping Community team
6:00am Saturday 26th January 2013 in Sport
DESPITE the recent snow forcing schools to close and roads to gridlock over the past week, it’s been business as usual for the Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust team.
Invoking the spirit of the hardy volunteers who cleared the County Ground pitch ahead of last weekend’s visit of Shrewsbury, the Trust ensured the fulfilled their commitments so that local youngsters would not go without their football fix.
Football development officer Shane Hewlett said: “We felt it was important that we made every effort possible to keep our busy programme active, which was really appreciated by all our parents and participants.
“We would particularly like to thank all of our players who made the effort to train and the Oasis Leisure Centre, who have accommodated us to host our training sessions this week “.
Places are now available on the Trust’s half-term football development courses, which are set to run from February 12-14.
Spots on these programmes, run at the County Ground and Ashton Keynes, are being snapped up quickly and anyone keen to be involved is urged to get in touch as soon as possible.
Community Trust manager Jon Holloway said: “With all the bad weather recently, children are now desperate to get back outdoors and playing again, and with half-term only two weeks away it will give them the perfect chance to get fit and active with three days of football and fun”
