WITH many clubs from the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge League already behind with their fixtures, they were dealt a further blow as heavy overnight rain led to disruption of the fixture programme.

All but three of the scheduled 13 league and cup matches joined the long list of casualties lost to waterlogged pitches.

With no games in both Division One and Two everything remains as it was prior to the start of play.

The second round matches of the Chantry Digital-sponsored Knockout Cup took a hammering, just two surviving.

Third Division Lacock produced a shock to send first division Freshford United crashing out to book their place in the last eight.

Joe Martin, manager of Lacock, has brought in former Corsham Centre manager Martin Bradfield to assist him with the running of the villagers.

And the pair couldn’t have wished for a better start as they pulled off what is likely to be the shock of the round by disposing of their top-flight hosts.

Lacock made the perfect start and were a goal up inside 20 seconds through Adie Webb whose 35 yards wonder strike caught everyone by surprise.

Freshford restored parity when Ryan Mortimer followed up a free kick to make it one apiece.  A mix-up in the Freshford defence led to Andy Wilkins regaining the lead for Lacock.

A second from Webb, whose effort crept in at the near post saw Lacock increase their lead before the break.

The second half saw Freshford battle hard to get back in the game but Lacock’s well-organised defence repelled anything that came their way and they saw the game out to claim what was a shock but thoroughly deserved scalp.

Lacock’s reward for their win is a home tie against either Westbury Town or Trowbridge Wanderers.

Lamb FC 6 Heytesbury 0

AFTER booking their place in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Junior Cup last weekend, Richard Stevens took his Lamb side through to the quarter-finals of the Knockout Cup where they will play the winners of the delayed tie Worton & Cheverell and Trowbridge Town Reserves.

Lamb were drawn at home to fellow second division outfit Heytesbury and in atrocious conditions that turned Stallards Playing fields into a quagmire they triumphed 6-0.

Ryan Underwood put the Lamb one-up and Bradley King-Taylor doubled his team's advantage prior to the interval with a brilliant strike from 25 yards out when after beating three players he rifled a superb effort into the top corner.

Heytesbury, who already faced an uphill task as they fought to get back in the gam,e were dealt a further blow on 55 minutes when they had Declan Griffiths sent off in an incident that led to the Lamb increasing their when Sam Stevens scored from the penalty spot.

Tom Blackman added number four and a second from King-Taylor made it 5-0 before Ashley Ellis rounded things off with the goal of the game, after picking the ball up 18 yards out, he turned and curled a stunning effort home for 6-0.

Heytesbury never let their heads drop and made their hosts work for their victory, despite having a man sent off.

Both teams are to be congratulated for playing the game in a sporting manner in what were very testing conditions.
