SWINDON TOWN: Quinn calls for patience from Town and Cherries

JIMMY Quinn believes Cherries and Swindon must be patient in their pursuit of glory in order to avoid previous financial problems.

Quinn managed Cherries in 2008 just weeks after the club had come out of administration and was also at the helm at Swindon when the Robins were plunged into crisis in the late 1990s.

Both Cherries and Swindon have sailed close to the wind financially this season and are two of the biggest spenders in League One.

Quinn, now manager at Northern Premier League outfit Nantwich Town, told the Daily Echo: “The problem with the professional game is that everybody wants success yesterday.

“Sometimes, if you show a little bit of patience, you will get the rewards and that involves developing players as well. I am sure Eddie Howe is good at that. He has brought a few young players through, some of them people had never heard of. “If either club or both were to win promotion this season, it would be great. But there is always next season. They are both on an upward curve and the finances seem pretty much sorted.

“You can’t spend above your means. You can’t just spend millions of pounds willy-nilly to get promotion because it is not going to work. You need to have an infrastructure and other things in place.

“Both clubs are certainly in a far healthier financial position than when I was with them. It is great to see everything has been sorted and both clubs are flourishing and pushing for promotion.”
