SWINDON TOWN: PDC aims to keep squad together

Town boss Paolo Di Canio
PAOLO Di Canio has stated his intentions to keep his Swindon Town squad together after turning down a bid from Bradford City for Aden Flint.
The Advertiser reported last week that the Bantams were keen to take Flint to Valley Parade and it is understood that a formal offer was submitted to Swindon on Wednesday evening.
Though the pursestrings have been tightened at the County Ground, Di Canio wants to maintain the positive energy that has been generated amongst his players in recent weeks and therefore the Town boss made the decision to rebuff the approach.
The Adver has also learnt that Port Vale failed in an attempt to take Flint on loan, while Plymouth are believed to have been interested in the 23-year-old, but Di Canio would rather preserve the atmosphere he has moulded in SN1 this season than sell an asset.
He said: “It’s clear that as a manager responsible for this group, that continuously studies the brain of my players, the atmosphere and even single words they send each other during a stretching moment in a training session I will tell you ‘no chance’. Not even for big money.
“It’s not only a good team any more, it’s a group which is more important than a team. I have chats with younger players, with adult players, like Beds (Leigh Bedwell) and Miles Storey and everyone is involved. There is not a group of adults there who isolate the others. They mix together even when you’re talking about social life.
“This is crucial. Two months ago there wasn’t the same situation, not because they are bad guys but because it is natural. But now even when they travel on the coach they involve themselves together.
“Now we are a group, so if it depends on me - no. But if it’s something that can help me and can help the rest of the group to be more happy and then put next to them another two or three players who can help them give their best and extend my quality, why not? But it’s something we can’t dream at the moment.”

As for the article - I see no Di Canio the Ego at the moment, and all the negative Di Canio comments seem to have died off? Funny that...
