Crawley to swoop for Benson
PAUL Benson is wanted on loan by Crawley Town at the conclusion of his time with Portsmouth, the Advertiser understands.
The striker, who has fallen out of favour at the County Ground despite scoring 15 goals in 39 appearances for Swindon Town after arriving from Charlton a year ago, is believed to a target of the Red Devils as they aim for a League One play-off place.
Benson’s current loan spell at Pompey expires next week and it is understood that a deal to take the forward to the Broadfield Stadium has already been mooted.
Crawley boss Richie Barker has denied the suggestion he is looking at the 33-year-old. Cheltenham are also understood to be keen on Benson.
One player who is unlikely to be leaving this month, however, is defender Aden Flint.
The Adver has learnt that Plymouth are the latest side to show an interest in prising the imposing centre-back from Swindon but all approaches for the 23-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, are believed to have been rebuffed by Town. Port Vale and Bradford had previously enquired about the former Alfreton Town captain.
