SWINDON TOWN: Archibald-Henville set for surgery
6:00am Saturday 5th January 2013 in Sport Exclusive By Sam Morshead
Troy Archibald-Henville will go under the knife in Italy
TROY Archibald-Henville is set to undergo knee surgery in Italy, the Advertiser understands.
The defender, signed for £200,000 from Exeter in the summer, has featured eight times for Swindon Town this season but was not part of the matchday squad for the New Year’s Day clash with Portsmouth at the County Ground.
It is believed that the 24-year-old will receive treatment at the Villa Stuart facility on the outskirts of Rome, where Robins players are seen for free after manager Paolo Di Canio donated his image rights to the clinic for promotional purposes.
Meanwhile, the Adver has learnt that Aden Flint is being targeted by two high-flying League Two clubs.
Swindon’s imposing centre-back has not been used by Di Canio since the 1-1 draw with Doncaster on December 8 and it is understood that Port Vale, are lining up an approach for the 23-year-old’s services.
Bradford are also believed to be interested in luring Flint away from Wiltshire, but Town are expected to rebuff any advances.
Paul Benson is also understood to be wanted by both Vale and the Bantams, and he is reported to have turned down a contract over from the Valley Parade club in recent days.
Meanwhile, Town are continuing in their efforts to extend the loan spells of Danny Hollands, Chris Martin and John Bostock. The trio are all due to play their final game for the club today, when Carlisle visit the County Ground.
Martin is keen to stay in Wiltshire, and no offers have been received for the Norwich forward from elsewhere, while Charlton manager Chris Powell has said he wants Hollands’ situation sorted by Monday.
It is believed that Oliver Risser could be interesting a club in South Africa. The midfielder’s brother Wilko has recently joined Cape Town outfit Chippa United.
The Advertiser has been told that recent reports linking Forest Green Rovers striker James Norwood with Swindon are wide of the mark.

.
Another player with a woeful track record who is having a blinder as in the right place at the right time
situation - Billy Paynter for example!
.
Plus he is not young so can't develop
.
Flint on loan would have been good - but not with Troy out
.
Though if they do want him Wells,Oliver and a few hundred thousand would be nice
.
Benson, Rooney, Risser, Cox and Coke to follow Bessone out should allow us to keep Hollnads, Martin and Bostock and then hopefully get one more on top - likey to be Madine on loan

Seems like its going to be a busy January, if we end up with at least Martin and either Hollands or Bostock (not convinced we need both with Miller and Navarro now fit) to the end of the season then I would be happy. Hopefully can get rid of some of the deadwood in the squad too

Benson has been offered Port Vale and Bradford but has rejected both, Risser has been offered a team place in South Africa but has yet to agree terms, so its not easy. Luke Rooney is alleged to be on very good money as part of the deal to get him here from Gills, but again we are not fending off a stampede for his services. Very reluctantly I can see there are two sides to this difficult scenario. We may have to accept that some baggage will stay on board to the end of this season, and we can't do much about it. If they don't want to go it seems we can't force them if they are still in contract.
We're not going to be getting rid of Flint if Troy is out as he would be our only cover at centre back while Macca is on the left.

Not that I'm unhappy with the current pairing and that's without Macca in the mix for CB

.
Though he was very very highly rated at Exeter and their player of the year
.
I think like Devera if we saw him next to Ward we would be talking about how well he is playing
.
Speaking of Ward - As we have seen we should never judge a player too quickly and I'm sure we will see the best of Troy over the next 30 months
.
If he is half the last CB we got from Exeter then £320k or £420k we will have to eventually pay will be a bargain!
.
Collins is a long way into repaying his fee - he was £140k plus 80k for 60 games plus £40k promotion - so £280k
.
That's currently £22k a goal and will keep falling as he certainly is not finished scoring!
.
£280k for a 20 a year man is a snap!
.
Especially when he is only 21 and will get better
