SWINDON TOWN: Martin unclear on Swindon future
4:30pm Thursday 3rd January 2013 in Sport
Chris Martin
CHRIS Martin is still unsure where his immediate future lies with the end of his loan spell at Swindon Town rapidly approaching.
The striker is due to return to parent club Norwich after the clash with Carlisle on Saturday but he said his agent is in discussions with both Town and the Canaries at present.
However, he is in the dark regarding where exactly he will be training come Monday morning.
"I think there are talks ongoing at this moment," he said. "I really, honestly don't know what is happening. I'll speak to my agent who'll then have to speak to both clubs and then there's everything going on behind the scenes but I don't know what's happening.
"I'll probably find out a little bit more later on today and then go from there. I've just got to look at the game on Saturday as a chance to go out with a bang if I do get the chance to play and then go from there.
"I've enjoyed my time here so we'll have to wait and see on that aspect of it."

No more money for new players (which includes extending loan deals).
That could change if we can somehow offload players, by selling or out on loan, and that side of the equation needs to be done first.

Get someone who know's what the F*** their doing......
He might be a top negotiator, beut jesus christ, his people skills are just absolutely awful....
I've been in the Armed forces for well over 20 years and i've had to ask my men to do some pretty awful things...
I never ever would have been able to do that without learning how to discuss things, and be open and develop my people skills.....
Whats happening to this Club??
We've gone from AF and JW who were the most open, pleasant, passionate about STFC Board.
To, quiet, scheming say nothing type of situation going........
From being what should be the nicest time, to feeling like i'm waiting for the carpet to be whipped from under us..........
Please Please Mr Black......
Say something to us......Please make a statement.........
Something doesnt smell right!!!!

We should also be grateful to the board for pouring their own money into the club, to such an extent that we went into an embargo because our outgoings were too high in comparison to our income.
If we want the club to be able to spend more money on players sustainably, we need to increase our revenue by getting more fans to the ground. We can't just expect the owners to keep subsidising the club.

The fear is with several payers returning it is bound to effect the loan players and for the club to work within the 65% limit.
OK Pdc has made some errors but saldo called some good shots with him I think this is whySWP is chairman basically to get rid Of Pdc and have a fire sale.
Yes a worrying time for the club and fans just hope it works out.
Can see Ritchie being sold on the cheap just to raise money again just hope they aint so silly

To those who are asking for that are you doing your bit by attending the home games ?
You can also do your bit. Our crowds are unlikely to sustain Championship football at present so come on get down to the CG and do your bit !!

If we could get upwards of 10,000 against Carlise this Saturday maybe the powers that be might turn their heads?? Sadly, i predict around about 8,300 tops...........
Everyone expects our Board to continually put more funds into the Club.

For once we will see if Mr Spencer can deliver without a % on the deal. No one else for Paolo to turn to, but that is what managers at our level have to deal with. On the loans it seems just a matter of priority and seeing how far we can get down the list. For me 1 Ward 2 Hollands 3 Martin 4 Bostock. It is not a disaster but probably the difference between going up or staying put. I have a feeling that we might have to sell either Flint or TA-H to keep all loans. Certainly one of them on loan. Perhaps Cox back to ICT on loan.
I would not expect the club do handle its negotiations on a messageboard, but from what has been said by Patey so far, it seems clear.

Doesn't bode well if Cox cannot renew his loan stint at the lowest rung of football.

Agree also Inverness would probably be happy to take Lee Cox back until the end of season, but question is who is going to take Risser..

Patey said that they hoped the 4 loanies could be retained but finances needed to be discussed. There may be a situation where there would be movement out.
I believes that the movement out would be those who have already been loaned or some other fringe players. If they can't be found another club then I reckon contracts will be terminated.

If we could get 9k season ticket holders it might make a difference, but knowing the apathy of the people of Swindon that scenario wont happen.
I know times are hard and some cant afford a S/T but there are those out there that can well afford them but can't be ar5ed.

It's actually even worse than that, as the club probably has to pay off the contract up front, which hits cashflow, the calculation used in wage cap calculations, and interest payments. Why people think cancelling someone's contract is a magic bullet that costs nothing is beyond me.
On the strategy, we had a three-year plan to get into the Championship. I would bet that the working assumption was immediate promotion from League 2, a season to consolidate in League 1, and then a second promotion in the third year. When Paolo was saying in November that 'things had changed', maybe this current situation is what he meant.
Or maybe he was never really aligned with the board on how the strategy would be implemented. Many of the players he bought weren't really good enough for League 2, yet they were on two-year deals, and their wages/pay-offs are now millstones around the club's neck. Probably staying in League 1 this season was always the most likely outcome. And now it sounds like the board doesn't want to stick around for the third year of the three-year plan anyway.
