SWINDON TOWN: Risser returns to Swindon
6:00am Thursday 3rd January 2013 in Sport By Sam Morshead
Oliver Risser
OLIVER Risser has returned to Swindon Town after Stevenage turned down the option to extend his loan, the Advertiser understands.
The Namibian joined Boro in the summer and has since featured 13 times for the Lamex Stadium outfit, scoring one goal.
It is believed that Stevenage had the chance to keep Risser in Hertfordshire but preferred to see him go back to his parent club.

Hardly earth shattering news though. I'd rather the adver started to ask questions about what is going on behind the scenes at the CG. following comments from the chairman during Tuesdays interview on BBC Wilts. Not even rated a mention. Well, Sam if those comments didn't concern you it did me and a few others! What's going on?

With all the recent talk about possible finance problems again with no money for new players etc etc I keep thinking about the money that Paolo has waste over the last 11/2 years..... The number of players in & out over this short period has been amazing.... Personally I would only look to keep Ward of the current loans..... Then maybe look to get maybe 1 or 2 more in....... The others don't add anything to our team compared with our permanent players.... This season and last although we have got in so many players Paolo still ends up with 3 or 4 loans at any one time..... Does appear that he's making a lot of incorrect decisions and needs a to take more advise on potential transfers....
Finally listened to the Chairman interview last night.... All very worrying. ....

We need quality and Risser doesnt fit the bill.
We need to keep Ward, Hollands and Martin and as far as i'm concerned ship out our players who have been on loan.

I do agree with you Paolo has wasted money on some duds, but he has also brought in a few gems as well, so overall it balances out, even Ferguson doesn't get it right all the time.
With regards Risser, he should never have been kept on this season, he simply isn't good enough, Smith was a better all round footballer, we let him go to York for nothing and they've now sold him on again for the second time for £50k. Paolo always liked Risser because he works hard in training, he rarely showed any flair on the field and a Stevenage supporter I know told me they're not sorry to see the back of him. I believe he only has 6 months left on his contract and if he hasn't found a club by the end of January, we should do the decent thing and pay up the remainder of his contract and give him the time to find another club back in Germany or wherever.

Unfortunately appears he's not good enough for Stevenage..... I very much doubt he'll even get on our bench, unless this means some of our loans go back (bostock?). Is Miller any better? So we wait for the Board I guess if hey decide I feel a few major players will go in Jan for purely finacial reasons.
Yes Pdc has spent a lot on his time at the CG he also has wasted so much money still the Board backed him.
So to pull the plug now would not benefit Mr Black at all.
As for the Chairmain he has done little since arriving and to be honest when AF and JW departed it seemed all was not kosher at the CG
Like many of us I do hope my feelings are totally wrong however we have seen this all before, and what of the crap we were told new development etc.SBC have a lot to do with this and the club have tried to purchase the CG since the 6's so it's a wait and see

He played the Navarro/Hollands/Mil
ler role which is vital to any team and never glamorous. Paolo tried Bostock in this role at Wembley for the last 20 minutes, he was poor in it and rightly he was slated.
Risser was as good as Smith he just didn't look as busy but he worked just as hard and was not scared to put his head in (as many may remember at the promotion party).
I believe the deciding factor for Smith's departure was the Wembley match. He was awful, unable to find a team mate from a few yards, and to me it showed he would probably not make the step up.
Smith over Risser, not much in it but his ability to fill in at the back swings it for me and that, IMO, is the reason he was retained.
I think we have better at the club now but believe there will be clubs interested in the lower leagues.
You could not fault either player's commitment last season and I thank them for that and wish both well in the future.

Risser, Cox, Rooney, Rooney. Their wages will prevent funds being diverted to extend the loans for Ward, Hollands, Martin, Bostock.
Add to that the half a million Phil Spencer has taken off the club and it's easy to see why Andrew Black changed chairmen to get someone to say 'no more' to Paolo.
We may well just have to get by with what we have. We do have cover at centre back with Flint, TAH and McCormack once McEveley is back, although Ward has looked really good. Bostock hasn't been used much. And as long as Ferry stays fit, he can combine with Miller or Navarro, although Hollands does look better, more dynamic.
Just hope we don't sell a prize asset to pay the wages of Risser, Cox et al. I would expect neither to get anywhere near the first team squad.
We do need to try and offload some players aggressively. But just because a club takes a player on loan doesn't mean they pay all the wages. It's all up for negotiation. Look at Man City - they were still paying Adebayor's wages when he was loaned to Spurs.

Ward's now integral at the back and seems to have brought Devera's game on leaps and bounds also, they clearly have a god partnership going on. Martin we could probably lose. Adam Rooney we could definitely lose. But Bostock and Hollands have both been useful so all round the loan signings have been very beneficial. Need to offload some of the dead wood though (Risser etc) to accomodate them and their wages.
oldtownrobin - totally agree with your comments the loanees we have in Martin-Ward and Hollands and in particular Ward and Hollands has made us a much more solid team which is why we have the best defensive record in the league now. We need to keep the quality of Hollands-Ward and Martin and ship the rest out who dont fit the bill and Risser is most definetly one of those. The rest of the interview was largely disappointing, downbeat and evasive though. Patey's reference to "Holland and Martins" (twice) was irritating. I don't think it's too much to ask the Chairman to know the players' names.

Anyone who thinks a board meeting this week is going to produce immediate transparency is likely to be disappointed. I would hope that there have been several board meetings since Patey arrived - and the information has hardly been free flowing during that time.

I still believe that one of the main reasons that JW was dismissed was his insistence on ground redevelopment. It is financially un-viable. Another waste of money & time.
Unfortunately SWP was not brought in to please the fans but to do a job, whether we like it or not. Until a statement is released we will not be any wiser to the boards real intentions.
As I said yesterday, perhaps AB is doing the honorable thing, realising he cannot no longer properly finance the club, he would rather sell up that just let a plod along as a third tire outfit, which realistically we are at the moment, if we do get promoted this season can anyone really see us staying in the championship without large sums of money being invested?

@ SAP, unsure of the time of meeting but presume it'll be P.M.
@ Rod Thomas, Mick yes we have the players and if we can retain the 4 loanies then I expect to be top of the pile in February providing we can play all our games of course.

But you know what, I dont have a clue what the future brings, but I will always be grateful to Black, Arbib and Fitton, because without them we wouldn't have a club, the wills family had kept this club alove out of love for years and they weren't going to keep on doing it.

ay-offs are finally coming back to trip us up. Was always going to happen - ALWAYS. We now have players on high wages that no-one wants to loan and if they did they will only cover half at very most. If Charlie Austin is sold MAYBE we will have more funds available for players but in all honesty I don't know if that is a good thing - just throwing more money at it. TAH seems an expensive buy to warm the bench and Rooney's estimate 250k+ fee seems a waste of money. Add to that the 500k to uncle Phil and there's 1m of our money. Thats before we start on the pay-offs and other wasted transfer funds. I'd say 2m down the drain. It's time for PDC to manage with what he's got now and show what we are made of. We can't keep all the loans but think we would be silly not to keep Bostock. I'll Drive A Rooney back to Brum and take L Rooney with him if he's bored. The squad is good enough for top 6 if injuries don't worsen but if and when we are in a bit of financial bother it will all be traced back to PDC's expensive mistakes

Things in Football can change very quickly, I think we dont know half of what goes on behind the scenes, I know a few people who work there and hear bits and bobs, but PDC will do everything to get promotion this year and in fairness its in Blacks interest as the owner of the club to get us in to the championship, more TV money sponsorship and gate receipts, even if our own fans wont turn up the bigger clubs will fill their allocation more often giving increased gate money.
So regardless of the long term plans, Black probably wants promotion as much as any of us, he can always cash in on Ritchie and other players in the summer if we dont achieve it, so for now I dont think there will be much in the way of changes.

Well said Lovesy! The only negative in the last few weeks is 2 rained off games. With 3 weeks off for Christmas and New Year, 10 goals in 2 games and clawing a wodge of the Bookie (I bet 5 goals of more against Pompey) I am a happy fan. PDC is applauding the fans and showing his passion. The team are gelling and we seem to be starting with a 'regular' 11. PDC refers to a group mentality that I see as he can set the team round a core and it shows. Ok so there is an unlcear background involving the board and money but lets face it, its results on the pitch and bums on seats that counts and we are certainly seeing a positive in the areas!!
What ever, Town have been around a long time, survived some pretty miserable times and we are still at it!
Long live STFC, King PDC and my thanks to all who have invested and kept us alive as a club.
Mr Happy.

But I fully agree the rag should be following up the background noises emanating from Patey. Having said that as stated by others it's as plain as a pike staff that Sir KillBill is Black's hatchet man and that AB wants out as does Arbib, there are no ground development plans (why? because SBC have said no again? Wouldn't be the first time!) therefore there is no scope for AB & co. to make moola from any such scheme.

Swindon chairman Sir William Patey says there will be no money for manager Paolo di Canio to strengthen his squad during the transfer window. The Robins, currently fifth in League One, are now free of a transfer embargo that was imposed last October after they overspent on wages and fees. However, Patey told BBC Wiltshire: "We don't have money to spend on players, that is the reality,"
That was quoted as live today just after 10AM.

Re the redevelopment of the ground I always thought there was a restrictive covenant on the site preventing from the Goddard Estate preventing any other use than sporting on the CG and cricket ground behind? The fact that the council won't give planning permission is another issue to hurdle. Would love to think that for the benefit of the Town (in general) they'd encourage the football club as good for the community. But hang on I'll put down my bottle of whiskey and stop drinking......

If he's so miffed he should have perhaps declared an interest. For example no one doubts that Shaun Hodgetts from the beeb is a dyed in the wool fan yet he "mostly" reports in an even handed way.

RobSTFC, if you can't see what Bostock, Holland and Martin add to our squad, you must have been watching another team somewhere. They have all improved under Paolo and are now an integral cogs in a team that has scored more goals, conceeded less than any other in this division.
The point I was making it that Ward is so good & has added so much to our game we need to keep him at all costs. If this means the other loanees can't stay then so be it. Personally I haven't seen anything extra from Martin & A Rooney compared to the strikers we have already.... you telling me I'm wrong? I'm prefer Benson over both of these.... (Portsmouth are hardly paying anything for Benson by the way). Martin hasn't scored yet.... isn't that what a striker is paid to do? Collins should start every game I've been saying that for the last 3 months...
Yes Holland is okay BUT again is he that much better than our permenant players (Miller etc etc)... answer NO.
We have wasted a small fortune (in Swindon Town terms) on some real duff permenant & loan players over the last 1 1/2 years.... it is this kind of out of control spending that nearly cost us our club in the past. Now I'm not suggesting we are near this point again, god forbid, BUT with the permenant squad members we have PLUS Ward and maybe Hollands and possibly a new loanee as cover upfront we have a team capable of promotion imo anyway. We cant break the bank to try to achieve this... as Paolo said himself on Tuesday even £20M will NOT guarantee promotion....!
If Bostock was really that good why can't he even get on the bench the majority of the time? Yes on his day he is a good addition to the team. BUT we have contracted players that must be paid..... If this means we can't keep Bostock then so be it..... If we kept him til the end of the season he may possibly start 5 or 6 games, can't see it being more than that. If he was playing every game (e.g. Ward) then fine.... but for whatever reason he isn't.
Anyone thinking that contracted players will just walk away without being paid out in full are mistaken.

The rest of the interview was largely disappointing, downbeat and evasive though. Patey's reference to "Holland and Martins" (twice) was irritating. I don't think it's too much to ask the Chairman to know the players' names.

What's going on?If you listened to the interview you should know that a board meeting is due 'later this week' - as from Tuesday that is - so, if it didn't happen yesterday, it will be today or tomorrow. All issues will be discussed and then we'll all, hopefully, get some feedback with 'what's going on'! Whilst I understand fans being worried, all speculation and second guessing is pointless so we should all be a little more patient.
.
Anyone who thinks a board meeting this week is going to produce immediate transparency is likely to be disappointed. I would hope that there have been several board meetings since Patey arrived - and the information has hardly been free flowing during that time.

You said quote "Personally I would only look to keep Ward of the current loans..... Then maybe look to get maybe 1 or 2 more in....... The others don't add anything to our team compared with our permanent players".
Not sure what you think I and others misunderstood with that statement, I may be wrong but if you are making your judgement on the first couple of games when we saw Martin (who was 6k over weight and Hollands unfit, your opinions may carry some merit, however if you were at Tranmere and Portsmouth games and have such opinions I would have to question your knowledge of the game.
Guaranteed if we lose Holland, martin and Bostock we will be a weaker squad our form will slip, as Paolo has said we are not just a team but a group, get over it and support the team we have instead of spouting off to bring in replacements for good players Paolo wants to keep..

James Norwood coming in would be interesting, and his team-mate Reece Styche would be ideal as well.
I am sure that we will be fine, financially, until the summer. Even if we don't go up, there are still reasons to be cheerful - we are a proper club again and we are successful on the pitch (remember the recent bad old days under Paul Hart?)
Slowly, but surely, progress is happening.

Look at Man City - they were still paying Adebayor's wages when he was loaned to Spurs.Agree. All the ins/outs/fall-outs/p ay-offs are finally coming back to trip us up.
