FEDERICO Bessone has left Swindon Town, manager Paolo Di Canio has confirmed.

As reported by the Advertiser last week, the full-back – who signed a short-term contract at the County Ground in the summer – has not been offered an extension to his deal.

The former Leeds and Swansea defender is now on the look-out for a new club, but the future remains uncertain for several other members of the Robins’ squad who have spent time out on loan elsewhere during the first half of 2012/13.

“Bessone is travelling back. He asked me one day early to go back because he knows that the contracts finishes,” said Di Canio.

“For the others there is nothing sure. There are some situations.

“I heard that Paul Benson is happy to stay at Portsmouth. We are more than happy to make him happy, but we need to ask with Portsmouth if they can keep him in our condition.

“It would be good for him and for everybody.

“We know with (Paul) Caddis, I hope that Birmingham can have the money to spend and buy him and then we can be happy and he can be happy. Then (Lee) Cox maybe can have a chance to stay at Oxford.

“Oliver Risser we don’t know yet. We didn’t receive an answer from Stevenage, and (Luke) Rooney we will see.”

John Bostock, Darren Ward, Danny Hollands and Chris Martin will all see their temporary spells in Wiltshire come to an end in the coming days.

Di Canio is keen to keep the quartet at the County Ground, and he has been pleasantly surprised by some players’ desire to stay and improve themselves in the red of Swindon.

“I have started to speaking to loan players are here because before I make a decision I have to ask if they are happy,” he said.

“To be honest, in some situations I thought someone would answer in a negative way but just because I am a killer manager they answered that they desperately want to stay.

“I have this effect on the players. It’s strange. I kill them but they want to stay under me. They are masochists.

“I am very happy. I know that I can work in a way that I can keep someone that already is here.

“For the others, in this moment if I had the chance to decide I would keep everybody.”
