Caddis cash not crucial to PDC's plans
6:00am Monday 31st December 2012 in Sport By Sam Morshead
ON HIS WAY: Paul Caddis
SWINDON Town manager Paolo Di Canio has stressed that the Robins’ flexibility in the January transfer window does not depend on the proposed sale of Paul Caddis to Birmingham.
Caddis is expected to convert his loan stint at St Andrew’s into a permanent stay next month, giving Town the cash injection they need to help bolster their squad as they bid for promotion from League One.
However, Di Canio told the Advertiser that his transfer policy in the new year does not depend on securing a substantial fee, believed to be in the region of £400,000, for the Scottish full-back.
“I can’t tell you because we asked something and they didn’t say ‘no, we can’t’,” he said.
“(Lee) Clark (Birmingham manager) only said ‘let me see’. We asked them if they can let us know when they will know, because if they say to us that they can buy at the end of January.
“That’s good but we want to try to do something now. They know this, they were very good, they were positive and said before the first six days in January they would give us the final answer.
“With any other clubs that we are talking that we don’t want it after the 25th or 27th because it will be tough. We said we would give them the first eight days. The first eight days can be enough and then maybe we can give them another two days of negotiation before we go through.
“At this moment I can’t leave a situation.
“Paul Caddis’ situation will help a lot without connecting too many things too much. Otherwise two situations can go through even if they say they don’t have the money and Caddis can remain there on loan.
“I am not strangled or completely under pressure that I can’t breathe. I can work because I have the two scenarios.
“One can be perfect because we have more fluidity and one we have to work more but in my opinion there will be no problem, even if Caddis remains there, to keep something and bring something.
“The two options are good because at the worst I am going to be in the situation where I can keep some good players that we’ve got and bring not two but one that I have in my mind.
“When there is a positive energy you can turn it completely on your side.”
Di Canio has two specific players in mind as he looks to build his squad in January, but he remained tight-lipped as to their identities.
“The one that I have in my mind is not in our league. But there is also one that has already played against us,” he said. “Not because he played well but because of his characteristics. He is a modern footballer that I would have in my team.”

Apparently Birmingham have got just over £1 Million to play with as they are also selling / returning loans....no idea if it is true but it was a general comment in their press / Official Site...let's hope they choose to give us £400K of it.

.
So £400k will not be a lot to spend once they get that money in - Butlanf is meant to be going for £6m+ so take Caddis out of that and that is over £5.5m from one player
.
They are then meant to be selling another 5 on top - so will probably raise well over £10m in sales
.
One question is the sell on to Celtic - will this be activated or do we need to see what Ferry goes for first?
.
£450k was the combined fee so do we only pay 20% of any fee we get over that for both? Or do we pay 20% (or whatever the agreed amount was) on any fee over £225k on each?
.
If we do then that would see Celtic get £35k from a £400k deal

They have started to prepare for their sales already by playing more and more youths

£275K - £175K rings a bell - that was from the Celtic fan club I deal with when I want a ticket for Celtic Park....may be £250-£200 but am sure it went below the £200 for Ferry.
---.
As mentioned above I don't see an issue with them paying the £400K for Caddis as they already have £1 million before any sales....not sure how much has to go directly into debts though as they are in huge trouble....even more if they don't get promoted this season.

At £275k we make a £125k profit - so they will get £25k - leaving us £100k profit on him
.
Not too bad in the end considering the situation!
.
Ferry is certainly worth over £50k if Smith went for that recently - so we should make a fair whack on him too if we do ever decide to sell
.
However - I think he will become a proper legend and will be here for years to come - think Championship is his level and he can achieve that with us

It seems that Adam Rooney will be part of any Caddis deal so you can forget about getting 400 k to play with.

I doubt that PDC sees Rooney as next level hence he'll decide nearer the end of the season - if we stay down he could be well worth keeping but if we do go up I doubt he'd entertain bringing him on board

Not reading too much into it but when I arrived at the CG on Christmas Eve the players were all just leaving and Bostock + an unrecognised were the last two to leave shortly followed by PDC....you never know but I'm sure regular discussions are taking place.
---.
If they do sell then he must be worth less than £150,000 with only 6 months to go....and that is only if we take him on loan with a view to first option on a purchase at the end of the season (provided he still wants to join us), big gamble for anyone else who hasn't seen him play of late - that sort of deal would work well if we get promoted as I'm sure Bostock would join as a leading member of the squad with regular football in the Championship.

Plus come Jan a few of them could become perm - could see Ward, Bostock and Martin signing as all into their last 6 months
.
Ward will be available on a free as Millwall will just want to move him on
.
Martin can't cost much as will be free in the Summer as 24
.
Bostock I also think will be available at a small fee ala Cox and Wes - where a big sell on is included so they benefit if he does reach his potential
.
Hollands and Rooney would then be our only ones in on loan (if we can extend Hollands) and 2 if not 3 of the 4 out sound like they are going - so only Luke Rooney a bit up in the air
.
Add Madine and a fullback and we will be sorted

And can anyone explain why the game has changed so much in this way?
If you look at the lower league clubs, most cannot afford to run a reserve team and nor can they afford an academy. you look at the financials side it makes more sense to borrow another teams surplus. It's good for both sides, youngster developing like Flowers, Givins, Carrick, Milner, Davies, Ward, Robson-Kanu, Ferry, Bostock, Jervis and many others benefited by gaining experience at Swindon. From our side we got the services of players we could not afford to buy or in the case of Ferry and Bostock prove their worth first.
I guess we all have to accept changes in the game, substitutions, loans, off-side rules, back pass rules for goalies (which I hate), were all introduced for reasons to improve the entertainment side, because of the negativity of some that bent the rules to their advantage.
Hey-ho happy new Year and enjoy the game tomorrow, see Pompey have signed david Connelly in time to face us.

In all seriousness 40 odd goals in last 100 appearances for poor sides, he knows where the net is, think he would compliment Williams well and would be good for a goal a game this season.
Wouldn't need mega money either - no signing fee and presumably we could beat previous wages at Barnet and Pompey.

A £1m gamble now, while we are in a good moment (Paolo speak), could be a very good investment as you cannot guarantee that we will be in the same position next season.
This could be the reason for the delay and also the reason Paolo was soooo cheesed off with the Colchester postponement.

That's what he done to the Pompey fans after they booed him when he was subbed.

Were will we get the funds from as another 1m would put use way over the 65% rule that was agreed by every club in div1

Oi Den,
Forgot to say, just hope Jervis doesn't come back to haunt us again like he did with Carlise, with Benno not available and McLeod left club already, guess he will be up front with Connelly tomorrow.
Sky just said Brum will be keeping Butt until end of season, so no cash coming in for them for his sale.
But still two players who could haunt us is Brian Howard who the Pompey fans can't believe how craaap he is and smith in goal, but he was only sub against yeovil.
Just to repeAt
Benson cannot play
McLeod has left
Jervis is back at brum

It could be a gamble but it could be one worth taking. The extra revenue gained from promotion would be far more than £1m. I believe the club are desparate to go up because of the structural changes that are due to happen (London Red please help here) and we are in a great position to push on.
You have to speculate to accumulate and now might be the time to do exactly that.

Money can be put into the club by an investor but this is effectively given to the club and cannot be counted as a loan. They get their money back IF the club succeeds and dividends etc can be paid.
No expert but this is how i perceive the ruling. Perhaps someone can clarify this.
I will take this opportunity to wish all Swindon Town fans all over the world a very Happy New Year which starts with 3 points against Pompey.

Cool - that means less "going out" then . At £275k we make a £125k profit - so they will get £25k - leaving us £100k profit on him . Not too bad in the end considering the situation! . Ferry is certainly worth over £50k if Smith went for that recently - so we should make a fair whack on him too if we do ever decide to sell . However - I think he will become a proper legend and will be here for years to come - think Championship is his level and he can achieve that with us
When was this BREAKING NEWS or is it just more shat
.
Given that Caddis was (I believe), the higher valued player that means that Ferry cost us about £175K...what value would you put on him today!?...one of our players of the season! :-)
.
Happy New Year again all and can't wait for tomorrow.....and that is just for the dry forecast!!

Take care lads and Lasses.
My wish for the next 12 months ?, simple, we are ALL still here in one years time, healthy and secure. The disposition of fellow supporters comes first, let us never forget that, because we will always carry the club through difficult times ensuring it survives

Looking forward to the Pompey game, a big rivalry in my family.
Also looking forward to a good strong, finish to the season. We certainly have the squad, the Board and set up to do it. Will our 'high maintenance' manager join us?
