DEVIZES Volleyball Club’s first team, Devizes 6X, remain undefeated in the Wiltshire Premier Division after two convincing wins in December.
Against Olympiad, the first team from Chippenham, Devizes clinched a closely-fought first set 25-21.
Aggressive attacking play by Steve Grimes together with strong blocking by Devizes captain Hans Kaashoek in the second set allowed the home team to create an early lead, resulting in a 25-13.
Olympiad came back hard to win the third 25-15.
The 2-1 overall win was matched in their game away at Wootton Bassett Aces.
Strong serving by Ho Tsang and Kate Pearce got the team off to a flying start in the first set, the lead further extended by strong defensive play from the team’s coach and outside hitter, Matthew Stevens.
Devizes took the first set 25-13 and the standard of play in the second set remained high, Tim Kirton dominating play at the net.
Bassett managed to come back and win the final set 26-24.
Devizes’ second team, Devizes Barrels, were also in action last week in Division One of the Wiltshire League.
The team made a fine start to the season, beating teams from both Salisbury and Calne.
However, they suffered a 3-0 defeat in their recent away game to Wootton Bassett Bees.
A strong overall performance in the first half of the season has left Devizes Barrels mid-table in the league.
