SWINDON TOWN: Falling out with Di Canio proved okay for Caddis
3:24pm Monday 10th December 2012 in Sport
Paul Caddis
PAUL Caddis has come to the conclusion that falling out with Paolo Di Canio was a blessing in disguise.
The Swindon Town full-back, currently on loan at Championship Birmingham, has recently made his return to action following a shoulder injury - a recovery which took less time than expected.
He puts his comeback down to the Blues' medical set-up, which he claimed is superior to what is on offer at the County Ground.
"Maybe it was not so bad I fell out with the manager," Caddis told BBC West Midlands.
"Originally the plan was after Christmas. But I've got to give a lot of credit to the physios here, who have worked me very hard in the gym.
"Christmas-time is important when games come thick and fast. Three wins gets you up in the play-offs and I don't see why we can't do that ”
"I've done a lot with the fitness coach and adrenaline's a strong thing. That got me though that first game back at Blackpool.
"But there's no chance I could have got to this stage had I still been back at Swindon as the facilities are so much better here.
"It's been quite a year. We won promotion, I was made club captain, then me and the manager had a few words, and I lost the captain's armband, but I ended up in the Championship."

Yes they will have better facilities there a bigger club and more resource how much of it is bent money is still a leading question with their dodgy owner who is still in prison or on bail back in Thailand or wherever it is.
I wish Caddis well as he is a good player and always gave his all for us and with his comments there is no way he will be back here so lets see how much we get for him when the time comes.

I do think we have lost a quality player but unless he actually wants to play for us then I would rather see him performing at the highest possible level, and hopefully, increasing his stock along the way.

Personally I think he should keep his thoughts to himself. At the end of the day, whether he likes it or not, he is contracted to Swindon Town. And whilst I appreciate that he will never play for us again, under Paolo, we can make it very difficult for him in the summer.

We haven't lost Ritchie and with 8 goals already this season, compared to last season's total of 10, it could said he is doing better without Caddis.
Matt is forming a good partnership with Nathan, which also enabled Bostock to attack space on Saturday. Cads was good for us but I believe Nathan will be better in the future (certainly defensively) and he is home grown :-)

Birmingham got a well decent player, we got a portable tub of lard, probably with less pride and passion than any other player. Crikey, compared to him Magera looked good.

As for the wider point that you raise, I don't see why it should be impossible for a manager and player to have a difference of opinion without it ending in a parting of the ways. We are all entitled to our views on that, and those views are bound to vary. We haven't heard of any fall-outs lately, so I'm hoping that PDC has now learned that there is room for other people's opinions. Otherwise, I think it will hinder his progress as a manager and our progress as a club. It has not been too much of a problem so far because the board has backed him in principle and with finance at every turn. That may be about to change here, and I doubt if he'll get the same luxury anywhere else.

Thought you might have looked at the team sheet before making your statement.
M+W started on Saturday and worked very well together. They held the ball up well, fed the midfield and were one of the main reasons why we dominated the game. What they didn't receive was good service from the midfield.
On the 1-on-1, he had to try to nick the ball past him and stay on his feet to score as it was a long way out. We should also remember that he has just returned from an injury that was picked up in a challenge with the keeper.

It's not like a couple of years ago, when there were such glaring weaknesses in the squad that our poor performances and ultimate relegation came as little surprise. Wilson's excellent team of 2009/10 was probably only marginally better than the one we have now but they played with such passion and belief that good performances and victories were the norm rather than the exception - until the calamitous late season collapse of course. I believe PDC's challenge is to galvanise the players he has, not to look for magic solutions halfway through the season.

There seems quite a few that seemed to have forgotten that Caddis by his own admission, skived off from training sessions. In other words, he repeatedly absented himself from work without management approval. That is a sackable offence in any other walk of life! For someone on £1000s per week, his conduct was disagraceful and it is even more unpalatable that he ended up manipulating a move to a championship club. A sad way to end his impressive Town career but one of his own making.

Dear Paul I liked you a lot as a player and Captain (although a little to mouthy with refs for my liking). However there is no excuse for your lack of setting an example by your admitted skipped training. As Captain quite rightly the manager needed you to set an example. You were even give more leniency because you were such a good pro last year. Unfortunately you tried to take advantage of this leniency and rightly paid the price.
No mater what people think about our manager and some of his methods (criticising players in public and lack of plan b to change a game being two that are definitely worth a discussion) I have said before that I hope whoever the club appoints when he leaves that they appoint someone with the same desire, discipline and work ethic. That this becomes the "Swindon Way".
By having a pop Caddis does himself no favours. I will be delighted if we get some money for him January, we can spend it on Bostock and building this club to be great again.

I agree about the absenteeism but a proffesessional doesn't do that without good reason. Simple truth is we all, will never know what was really said, but Caddis is now with Brum, on probably more money and probably better thought of by the man in charge, he won, we got lard in his place. Hope Nathan continues to improve.
Caddis who? I would rather have Nathan Thompson in the team. He is a much better defender and is quickly improving his attacking qualities.

At the end of the day, whether he likes it or not, he is contracted to Swindon Town. And whilst I appreciate that he will never play for us again, under Paolo, we can make it very difficult for him in the summer. I do think we have lost a quality player but unless he actually wants to play for us then I would rather see him performing at the highest possible level, and hopefully, increasing his stock along the way.Why should he keep his thoughts to himself? He hasn't had a go at anyone; he's just said things have worked out well for him.
But im on the buildings so your line of work might be different

Midfield for not supplying quality balls in or the strikers themselves for not being able to put the ball in the onion bag? The number if times we've hit the woodwork in the last two games is staggering but at the end of the day a miss is as good as a mile isn't it?

Didn't see the Donny game as I was on my way to mallorca's neck of the woods, well mainland part. Seems WC the bog roll 2 are still firing turds instead of Exocets with dry Martini close behind. I'll stand by my claim that W + C won't score a score between them - was it Grim that said Willo failed to round the keeper again on a 1 on 1. Looking forward to seeing if they hit the net against tranmere but won't be having them down for 1st goal scorer!

Perhaps this is poor positioning but in theory it could be sorted. I remember watching a training session with the good Danny Wilson side and he spent almost half the session working on delivery into the penalty area. This explains, to me, the reason why Paynter and Austin did so well that season.
Would love to know the goals to shots ratio of our Strikers, it is probably fairly decent based on what I have seen at home this season.
