WITH Castle Combe and The Lamb already safely through to the quarter-finals of this seasons Wiltshire Junior Cup, Semington Magpies and Westwood News were hoping to join them in the final eight but it wasn’t to be as both sides crashed out of the competition.

Magpies suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Salisbury League outfit The Wanderers who came from behind to claim their victory.

Magpies went one up on five minutes through Rich Allum who rounded the keeper after a defence splitting pass from Allan Clarke.

Wanderers replied before half time and when Allum got himself sent off in the second half for having a little too much to say to the referee it killed the game for Magpies who conceded two further goals as they crashed out of the cup.

Westwood News 2 Ashton Keynes 4

THIRD division leaders Westwood News, who reached this stage after a victory over fellow league opponents Steeple Ashton and after receiving a bye in the previous round, hosted Ashton Keynes who are at the wrong end of the Wiltshire League Division One table.

But after beating cup holders Stockton & Codford in the last round they fancied their chances of becoming the first team to beat Mark Hurkett’s side at their Bobbin Lane fortress which thanks to a 4-2 score line is exactly what they did.

Ashton Keynes led 1-0 at the break but they were pegged back when Ben Ludwell restored parity with a long range screamer on 48 minutes.

Two quick-fire goals from the visitors to Westwood saw them open up a 3-1 lead before Harry Hamlin scored from the spot to give Westwood hope which soon evaporated when Keynes added a fourth to seal their victory.
