SWINDON TOWN: Martin targets first Town goal

SWINDON loanee Chris Martin believes his first goal for the club is not far away as he prepares to return to action against Doncaster tomorrow.

The striker has made three appearances in Robins colours since making the temporary switch from Norwich last month, and has had a number of chances without being able to find the back of the net.

The 24-year-old has suffered with illness this week but is confident of being involved tomorrow, and is keen to find the net against the side currently sitting second in League One.

“I have had a few chances to get my first goal in the games previously which I did not manage to do which was disappointing, but once one goes in a few will follow I hope,” he said.

“It can take time, and it is positive that I was getting chances because the time to worry is when you are not getting any chances.

“I am positive that goal will come soon because we create a lot, and we get the ball wide and get it into the box a lot so I am sure they will keep coming.

“I was a little bit ill on Wednesday with a bit of an upset stomach so I am not 100 per cent at the moment, but I have felt a lot stronger after a lot of running last week.

“I am feeling good and fit, and hopefully I can start reaping the rewards now.”

The break from action has allowed Martin to get to know his new teammates better, something the striker believes will benefit him.

“I have had a good chance to get used to the squad here, even though I blended in quite quickly, but I have had some good time with the guys and seen what the manager wants tactically and technically,” he said. “I also need to play as many games as I can because there is no substitute for a game, but hopefully that will come.”
