TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION TWO: Broughton end winless run
12:00pm Monday 3rd December 2012 in Sport
A WEEK after waterlogged pitches led to a complete wipeout in the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge League, it was the turn of the overnight frost to wreak havoc with the fixture programme.
Seven of the scheduled 15 league and Wiltshire Junior Cup matches were lost to frozen pitches.
Everything remains as it was at the start of play in Division One.
Westbury United Reserves, who had the chance to move top of the table above an inactive Melksham Town Reserves and Boomsbury who were in Junior Cup action, missed out when their match away at defending champions Trowbridge Wanderers became one of the casualties.
The other top-flight clash that failed a pitch inspection was the game between North Bradley and Warminster Town Reserves making it the third time this term that a fixture featuring the two sides had been cancelled.
With all the matches featuring the sides battling it out to finish top of Division Two lost to the weather, all eyes were left focusing on the only remaining contest which saw the bottom two sides Heytesbury and Broughton Gifford go head to head.
And it was the latter who emerged victorious as they snatched a 2-1 triumph at Heytesbury Park which saw the visitors end their 18-match winless run.
Ollie McAninch was the star of the show for Broughton, scoring both of their goals.
His first gave John Forester’s side a half-time lead and his second which proved to be the winner came after substitute Dale Raine had headed in from a corner to tie the score at 1-1 shortly after coming on for Heytesbury.
MATCHES OFF: Bratton v Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves, Calne Eagles v Worton & Cheverell, Westbury Town v Melksham Town A.
