WITH the Bristol Avon flooded the Airsprung Xmas match was switched to the Kennet & Avon Canal at Airsprung on Sunday.

Tom Ince, from Trowbridge, took top spot with 8 lb 10 oz of roach and skimmer, with Kevin Hanson, of Trowbridge, runner up with 2 lb 8 oz of roach and skimmers boosted by a fine perch.

Matt Oliver, of Trowbridge, was third with 6 lb 10 oz of roach and skimmers.

Other placings: 4. Howard Adams, Devizes, 5 lb 1 oz; 5. Phil Eggleton, Bradford, 4 lb 8 oz; 6. Dean Adams, Bradford, 4 lb.

THE final round of the Wessex Winter League was fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Pewsey where fish proved hard to tempt.

Pewsey A took top spot on the day with 32 points followed by Turners Tackle with 29 and Lechlade with 25.

Turners Tackle finished the campaign as champions with 106 points followed by Swindon Isis with 104.

James Carty of Pewsey A took top spot on the day with a roach catch weighing 3 lb 6 oz, ahead of Gary Didcot, of Turners Tackle, with 2 lb 15 oz of roach and skimmer.

Turners’ teammate Eamon Byrne was third with a mixed catch weighing 2 lb 13 oz.

Other placings: 4. Ian Spanswick Pewsey 2 lb 11 oz; 5. John Swan Turners 2 lb 10 oz. Final League Table: 1. Turners Tackle 106; 2. Swindon Isis A 104; 3. Pewsey A 93; 4. Pewsey B 81; 5. Swindon Isis B 60.

WITH fishing generally badly affected by the weather at the weekend, the Chippenham match at Pockeridge Lake saw Nick Lofy, from Calne, carry off top prize with 31 lb 4 oz of carp and perch.

Alex Hyde, from Chippenham, was runner up with 28 lb 7 oz of carp followed by Ian Liddell, from Chippenham, with 13 lb 13 oz of roach and perch.

Other placings: 4. Nigel Smith Calne 13 lb 8 oz; 5. Luke Wooldridge Chippenham 10 lb 15 oz; 6. Guy Manners Chippenham 9 lb 4 oz.

IT WAS a similar story for Sunday’s Lavington match at Merritts lake where Dave York, from Trowbridge, won with 39 lb 8 oz of carp, followed by Ken Morris, from Devizes, with 21 lb 12 oz of carp.

John Painter, from Devizes, was third with 20 lb 4 oz of carp.

Other placings: 4. Pete Neate, Holt, 16 lb 8 oz; 5. Joe Sheppard, Frome, 16 lb 4 oz; 6. Jim Escott, Melksham, 11 lb.

THE Wilts Angling Open match fished on Sunday on the Foxhanger stretch of the Kennet & Avon Canal at Devizes saw Kevin Grant, from Trowbridge, triumph with 19 lb 6 oz of bream and skimmers.

John Atkins, from Trowbridge, was runner up with 14 lb 4 oz of roach and skimmers, with Kevin Rowles, of Devizes, third with 8 lb 6 oz of roach and skimmer.

Other placings: 4. Rob Kepner, Melksham, 6 lb 15 oz; 5. Richard Brimble, Trowbridge, 6 lb 11 oz; 6. Neil Hounsell, Trowbridge, 6 lb 6 oz.
