SWINDON TOWN: Bostock is loving his time at Town

John Bostock says he "feels like a kid" at Swindon Town John Bostock says he "feels like a kid" at Swindon Town

JOHN Bostock has confessed to feeling ‘like a kid again’ during his recent run in the Swindon Town first team.

The on-loan Tottenham midfielder, who initially struggled to break into manager Paolo Di Canio’s matchday squad following his switch from White Hart Lane in August, finally forced his way into the Italian’s starting XI at Stevenage on October 27 and has gone on to make a serious impression at the heart of the Robins’ midfield.

The 20-year-old was in fine form when talking to the local media on Tuesday, where he admitted that being left out of the Town side for nine games in a row earlier in the campaign was tough to take.

However, he knuckled down and in applying himself to the task at hand he has woken up the youngster in him.

“I just feel like a kid again. I look forward to Saturdays,” he said.

“At Tottenham I was just training, training, training and not featuring but now I’m training throughout at the week and to be involved on Saturday is fantastic.

“Being a footballer you have to adapt to any situation. Last season I had to play a completely different role and a different position on the pitch as well, and even when I came back I had to fight and be patient and I think there was a period of nine games where I didn’t play. Sometimes I didn’t even travel.

“Football can change so quickly and that’s one thing I’ve learnt, even though I’m still young. I’ve learnt that football can change quickly. One week you’re up and one week you’re down.

“At the moment I’m on a little bit of a high because I’m playing and enjoying my football so I’ll take it as it comes.”

Swindon are without a game until the visit of Doncaster on December 8, having been dumped out of the FA Cup at the first-round stage by Macclesfield earlier this month.

A fortnight’s break could be considered an unwelcome distraction, as the Robins try to find the consistency necessary to make an assault on the play-off places in League One, but Bostock thinks the time off could help clear the players’ minds.

“It is a strange time, and especially for me because it’s my first real time I’ve been playing at a club around this period,” he said.

“To not play is strange but we know that it’s a mental break from games but training is still intense.

“Next Saturday we’ve got a game and it’s a big game for us, so hopefully there’s plenty of time to refresh our minds and get ready for the next game.

“Hopefully, even though there’s no game for a couple of weeks, in the following games I can feature and do well and just maintain the progression that I’ve shown so far.”

Wait what! e is enjoying it here?!? Under Paolo Di Canio?! that cannot be true with the way that Paolo treats his players?!? Adding to the glowing recommendation that Connell gave STFC and PDC Im starting to think that Paolo might actually be a very, very good manager to work under and not the beastly evil being that he is often made out to be by people that have never experienced working or playing for him make him out to be!

Sign him up as soon as possible and play him every week. Him and Ferry are sheer class.

Davey Sean Syd couldn't agree more with all your posts. The headline cheered me up when I saw it, (makes a change) the article and now full house of comments.

I've maintained all along that I believe Paolo really sees something in John - as I do. (Me and Paolo: we're like that)! I've also had a hunch he wouldn't use him to much before January and then try and buy him from Spurs with 6 months left on his contract a la Super Sir Wes.

Hope my hunch proves to be correct and that as Syd says him and Si Ferry rule our midfield to the Premiership.

Day for only brightness and light. Come on in, your all welcome. COYR

Back to back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend. (Isn't he already?!) build a statue of him when he takes is into the Premiership.

Seems a very grounded young man, would be good to have him permanently, although if Spurs see any potential in him they can obviously offer him more in financial terms than we ever could. We'll have to wait and see.

Davey Gravey says...

Think wages could become a stumbling block to a potential permanant deal. If the figure I have been told he is currently earning to be true then I reckon he will need to take a pay cut to come here.

Davey I've no idea the figure he's on but if he's happy here would expect him to take pay cut to come here to improve his career again....

Bit of a rash assumption there dreamo - your sunny optimism shining through again! I reckon it would depend on how big the pay cut is. If it gets to the point where we are prepared to offer him a long-term deal, there could be other clubs in the market for him too. As much as we all like to think differently, deep down we know that money is the loudest talker in the game. Cynical? Well, maybe just a tad.

True enough, unless there were no offers from other clubs and we were his last chance to play regular football, I wouldn't exxpect him to take a significant pay cut just to play here. Wouldn't expect that of any player, and rightly so - if he can get better wages playing regularly at another club then fair play to him, we'd all do the same in his position.

All total b0llocks as we know because when asked to expain how they know its always - " can't tell you that guv"

Did read somewhere John is on about £8k a week, if true, don't know how much of that we are contributing but it sounds a tad much to be paying for a div 1 player. Also he's under 24, so it could go to a tribunial if we can't to a deal with Spurs in January not sure we would have enough left in the Budget to afford to tempt Spurs, they stand to lose £5 million if he goes on a freebie, unless of course we get a chunk from the Austin sale.

Just seen on Sky Simon Ferry will be out for at least 2 months with ankle ligament damage, possibly why he wasn't playing for Forest at the weekend

Den of course sunny disposition. It's the only way of dealing with some stuff.

I just think we may sign him on an initial pay cut going up when we get in Championship etc. I think he likes it here, knows he'll develop. I once took a 25% pay cut because I knew it would develop my career and then I'd get it back later.

I know most footballers are stupid but I think he may learnt.

Lets see.

Ollie,

I was about to accept a section leaders position in the garden centre at B&Q, as they are very fair with older employees, but in view of your comment, I think I will wait for a phone call from PDC!!

Now, where on earth did I leave my Puma boots over 40 years ago??
