SWINDON TOWN: Wes concerned by narrow defeats

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Wes Foderingham, right Wes Foderingham, right

SWINDON Town must kick the habit of losing by single-goal margins in games they dominate if they’ve got any chance of securing a League One play-off place.

That’s the view of Robins goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, who is fed up of 1-0 defeats.

He’s not the only one. Town have lost five matches by that scoreline this season, while four of their six slip-ups in the league have been by a goal to nil, including the last two - against Brentford and Notts County - which came within four days of each other.

In many of the contests in question Swindon have spent long periods in control of possession and territory without turning their dominance into points, and that is an issue that Foderingham has stressed must be addressed sharpish.

“We’re all down a bit,” he said. “The gaffer keeps saying to us that we can’t keep creating all these chances and not getting on the end of them. He’s right in that respect.

“We can’t keep losing games 1-0 when we’re on top because sides will just come and get a goal and just sit there like Brentford did on Tuesday night.

“We need to find a way to turn these chances into goals.

“Defensively we’re solid, we’ve got one of the best defensive records in the league again. There are no complaints and no worries there.

“Up top it’s not just the strikers who have to contribute with goals, it’s the midfield players and even the defenders sometimes. When they get in the position to score they have to put it in the back of the net.

“I think for the starting boys, Collo (James Collins) and Willo (Andy Williams), they did try hard (at Notts County). It’s difficult out there, we were playing against a good side. I can’t criticise them too much but we do need the boys to chip in with a few more.”

Do us a favour Wes and shut up with your open criicism of other players, It's bad enough PDC doing this without you starting.
You openly talk about Collins and Williams, and then tell them publically that they are letting the team down!
What part of ''I can’t criticise them too much but we do need the boys to chip in with a few more.”, can possibly be seen as anything other than negative.
You have let yourself down big time with this comment.by naming names, grow up and stop believing your own publicity, you too are far from the finished article.

What are you lot getting at Wes for? He's only stating the truth.
Our strikers are crap lets face it and without a change up front we will keep losing in exactly the same way, week in and week out. The rest of the team is playing well and providing loads of chances as we know but they are not capable of converting them regularly.
(Why not give De Vita a go up front with one of he other useless strikers)
Wes is very nearly the finished article and has saved us from even more embarrassment loads of times already this season, so I don't understand wh you would say that about him publicy either,as It's not correct. The strikers are crap and thats a fact! Publicly
