SWINDON TOWN: Flint wary of Macclesfield banana skin

ADEN Flint is wary of the Macclesfield banana skin as Swindon Town target another FA Cup adventure in 2012/13.

Last term the Robins progressed all the way to the fourth round of the competition, courtesy of victories over Huddersfield, Colchester and Wigan, before coming unstuck at Leicester.

Having been part of a team that has become renowned for its giant-killing exploits, Flint knows the mindset Macclesfield will take going into the clash at the County Ground tomorrow.

And he has warned his teammates against complacency ahead of the first-round tie.

He said: “We’ve got to go into Saturday and treat it like any other game. Obviously Macclesfield got relegated last year but they’re a good side. We can’t underestimate them and I don’t think the boys will underestimate them.

“We’ve got to treat it like a normal game and I’m sure we’ll be alright.

“On paper it’s a banana skin. They’ll want to come and cause an upset at a bigger club. We did it to a few teams last year in the FA Cup.

“If we treat it as a normal game we’ll be okay.

“We want to go as far in the competition as we can. The opportunity to play against a Premiership side doesn’t come that often.

“I’m sure we’ll get to the third round. Obviously the second round comes first but there’s a big task of winning in the first round and I’m sure we’ll be okay.”
