CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Kite can't make case for the defence

CHIPPENHAM Town defender Alex Kite thinks that there is nothing that will frustrate his manager more than lapses from the Bluebirds back line.

Chippenham conceded from two set-pieces as they were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Sholing last weekend and Kite thinks that his side weren’t at the races defensively.

“With Nathan coming in to this management stage from the defensive side of the game and being a centre-back, defending set-pieces is something that we work on a lot in training,” said the Bluebirds man.

“Rich (Fey) also came from that side of things and I know that they’re really disappointed if we give goals away like we did on Saturday.

“We didn’t take our chances and let ourselves down a bit by conceding two sloppy goals.”

The Bluebirds have now exited the FA Cup and Trophy in consecutive weekends but Kite thinks that his side weren’t feeling the effects of their heart-breaking clash with Gloucester City when they met Sholing.

“There was so much being said about the FA Cup game but we were fully focussed last weekend and looking to get things back on track,” said Kite.

“The boys still knew that there was a bit of money on the game and I think they were still a bit excited – unfortunately it didn’t work out for us.

“It feels like a long time since we’ve had a league game but I think that a tough match (away to unbeaten Leamington) might be the ideal game for us.”
