TOWN v VILLA: Vlaar thinks his side can go all the way

RON Vlaar is targeting cup glory with Aston Villa, but first the Dutch centre-back will have to negotiate Paolo Di Canio and his Swindon Town side.

Vlaar admitted to knowing little about the Robins when questioned about Villa’s opponents in the build-up to the two teams’ Capital One Cup clash at the County Ground this evening.

But he was well aware of the reputation of Town boss Paolo Di Canio and he expects the Italian’s players to channel his energy and enthusiasm come kick-off this evening.

He said: “I dream about lifting a trophy with Villa of course. You want to win every game and cup games are something you look forward to. It’s a long way off yet but to play at Wembley would be amazing.

“I have heard of Swindon but I don’t know that much about them.

“I know Di Canio is the manager of Swindon and I remember him catching the ball in a Premier League game against Everton when the goalkeeper was injured. I saw that on TV.

“I have seen him as a manager on the TV and you can see he is a passionate man. Inevitably that will be shown by his players on the pitch.

“They will be a team who will ready for the fight and Swindon will prepared to fight hard against so we must be at the same level.”
