HEAD TO HEAD: Villa's visits to Wiltshire

TONIGHT will mark only the seventh occasion Swindon Town have entertained Aston Villa at the County Ground.

In their entire history, the Robins have beaten the West Midlands side just once in Wiltshire - David Moss’ strike in November 1973 enough to settle a Division Two clash 1-0 in the hosts’ favour.

Otherwise there have been two draws and three Villa wins in games between the two teams in SN1.

The most recent clash took place during Swindon’s solitary season in the Premier League.

Paul Bodin’s 33rd-minute penalty put Town ahead exactly 19 years ago today, but Shaun Teale levelled before the break before Dalian Atkinson notched the winner for the visitors with 22 minutes remaining.

The first competitive fixture involving Town and Villa took place on Boxing Day in 1969, when Peter Noble scored Swindon’s goal in a 1-1 draw, but there are records of earlier contests between the sides dating back to the end of the 19th century.
