SWINDON TOWN: Swindon's Williams returns to light training

ANDY Williams has returned to light training as he recovers from a calf strain but the striker is not expected to feature for Swindon Town this weekend.

Williams, who picked up the knock at Bury three weeks ago, will be given time to make a full recovery before being risked by manager Paolo Di Canio.

He and midfielder Alan Navarro arrived back from Rome in midweek where they have been seeing a specialist for treatment.

Di Canio said: “Andy Williams is in a better situation. He ran yesterday and today. In the next few days we are going to decide how long it will take for him to join the team. We don’t want to risk him and we’ll take it gradually.

“Alan Navarro is longer because he had a problem with the medial ligament, there was a lot of swelling so probably another three weeks for him.

“Nathan (Thompson) fortunately is not longer than we thought. He trained today but you can see he is suffering and there is inflammation in his ankle. We will decide in the next few days how to proceed.”

Federico Bessone will remain sidelined for the trip to Stevenage, while Aden Flint is back after a one-match ban and Paul Benson could be included after being dropped for the visit to Crewe.

Good news on both Williams and Thompson - these 2 are a major part of the team and the sooner they return the better

LR- I agree, Williams absence has left us with very few alternatives up front. It for me is the biggest glaring sign of why PDC is correct in wanting more players.

Thompson has shown so much passion, desire and fighting spirit to go along with his ever improving quality. Without him in the side at times we have lacked desire!

Won't be back for then it seems - we need him for the rest of the season as well and would hate for him to be out for another 6 weeks due to him playing Tuesday.

Collins got 3 against Stoke so he obviously likes the Premiership defences! :-)
