SWINDON TOWN: 'Everything to lose' in FA Cup tie

NO-WIN SITUATION: Town manager Paolo Di Canio NO-WIN SITUATION: Town manager Paolo Di Canio

MACCLESFIELD at home was the “worst” draw Swindon Town could have been handed in the first round proper of the FA Cup, according to manager Paolo Di Canio.

Despite being drawn to face a non-league club at the County Ground on November 3, Di Canio suggested that the tie is not as easy as it may seem upon first glance.

He said: “It’s the worst one because you have everything to lose. In this game we arrive after Aston Villa where we will spend incredible energy mentally and physically.

“After Aston Villa you do not have a big name, with all respect to Macclesfield, but non-league.

“I have to think carefully about which players I choose, not because of rotation but because I would use young players with 100 per cent commitment and enthusiasm.

“For them it is the game of their lives - FA Cup, League One, Swindon. For us it should be the same but it is not easy.

“When I heard the news I thought this can be big trouble for us.”

Tickets for the game are available to Swindon fans at the reduced price of £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and students and £1 for juniors under 15.

Have yo agree, sandwiched between two big games in villa and Sheffield its, Macclesfield could cause an upset.

Spot on again from Paolo. This is HUGE game for Macclesfield, a league 1 side, champions of league 2, the Paolo factor, fingers crossed we will have just knocked Villa out the league cup! They will come here really pumped up for the match. Seems PDC has this spotted early on tho and Im sure he will not let players underestimate the match!

That'l be a combination of the morning cobwebs and my fat thumbs, apologies.

Another consideration is that this will doubtless be a fairly low turnout, the very reasonable ticket prices notwithstanding. A flat atmosphere may play into Macclesfield's hands even further.

Add any further injuries in the next couple of games and we can forget about it!

Aye that's true Swindon1984. Although well done to town on reducing the ticket prices! A good result against Villa could really boost the attendance tho!

Would be a game to give the likes of Storey a go.

I don't believe he said that as surely Barnet away or Luton away or other...
- It isn't the 'WORST' draw we could have got - what a load of old tosh!
---.
I understand the following comments but the leader line is ridiculous...a home tie v a non-league team in Rd 1 of the F.A.Cup is perfect - if the players are stupid enough to underestimate the opposition then that is their issue (soon to be ours) but it is an ideal opportunity to play some of the younger lads and to say 'You're chance lads!!...show me what you can do!!".
---.
The club have responded well with £10 a ticket as well so hopefully we'll get a load of extras as you can save yourself 3 times that much but not going shopping or sitting in the pub all afternoon.

Rant over.

On the flip side you could argue that some may attend on the basis of securing a ticket for the next round/possibly the round after which may boost numbers. Should we get through this one there'll definitely be a demand for tickets for the next round for that reason, as all eyes would be on a 3rd round tie against big opposition. Can't see us ever getting the dream draw though if there is such a thing - I'm still smarting after getting knocked out by Stevenage and them going on to draw Newcastle!

Always the way for us we stay in and we get the glamour ties - Fulham (a), Stoke (a) or Wigan (h) else we go out and would have got one of the big boys.

Even this one made me laugh Man City could have been the draw but nope!..we get Dah Villahh! :-)

The lads just have to go out and enjoy that one as they did the others. More important that we get 3pts tonight.

So can anyone tell me what would have been a GOOD draw. Sorry but I agree with Sap, tongue in cheek comment from Paolo, a non-league game at home is better than travelling away to a few better league teams tham Macclesfield.
