Town divided over Banksy-style graffiti

| Banksy-style graffiti in Chippenham |
BANKSY fever seems to have swept through Chippenham with three more pieces of graffiti art popping up in the town.
Since the first piece was discovered on a bus shelter in Marshfield Road two weeks ago, people have been spotting similar styles of graffiti.
Two stencilled pieces have been discovered at the train station - one depicting Batman and the other an old train with a person inside looking out.
The other was found just seconds away from the original on Marshfield Road, around the side of the Angel bingo hall.
This stencil is of a man and was spotted by a traffic warden earlier this week.
Banksy super-fan Stephen Dixon came to Chippenham from Bristol at the weekend just to see all of the street art.
He said: "Although I am not totally convinced these are all Banksy pieces, I think they are fabulous and well worth a look.
"It really goes to show the public support for this kind of art and that it really isn't perceived as nuisance graffiti.
"I have seen all of the different images around the town and have been blown away by the detail of them all.
"I have been a Banksy fan for a long time and I think even he would be impressed with the images in Chippenham.
"They really lift the area and I think they should all be allowed to stay where they are."
Reports have also come in that a larger piece of Banksy-style graffiti was sprayed in the public walkway close to the bridge on Bath Road a couple of months ago.
The tunnel was cleaned by North Wiltshire District Council on Thursday last week.
A spokesman for the council said: "The footpath passes through a tunnel that has been covered in graffiti and was littered with rubbish discarded by pedestrians.
"We do not recall seeing any Banksy-esque pieces of graffiti and would have taken a picture if we did."
The decision on whether or not to keep the graffiti art has divided the town.
Lesley White, 47, from Pewsham, said: "It looks horrible and all graffiti should be removed because it just encourages more people to spray obscene things all over the walls in the town."

Hardly a fever, visitors to this site seem more interested in the Chippenham plastic bag story.

Its not even art..its stencil. probably from that magazine launched just after Christmas. 'Stencil like Banksy' a weekly magazine that grows into a collection of graffiti stencils that will thrill the populace. - Personally I preferred the one with the trains.

Look, there's no need to panic, its just stencil graffiti. Even Banksy is a 'copycat' of the original parisian stencil artists, who even cares.
Personally i'd much rather see fledgling attempts at excellence than another bloody maybeline ad.

...they have all been long standing stencils though, next to the storm trooper was a Pacino stencil too. Presumably by seperate artists. The only new stencil is the train station. There is also a small scientist in the Ivy Lane tunnel.
