DENNIS Robinson, who died after a long illness, shortly before his 81st birthday, was remembered fondly by his family and friends at his funeral service, at St Bartholomew’s Church, Royal Wootton Bassett, on January 12.

Dennis, originally from Preston, Lancashire, came to Wiltshire as a National Serviceman, and after demob, made his home locally. He used to play football for Wootton Bassett, and was interested in all sports.

After his service in the Royal Air Force, he enjoyed working for 33 years as a civilian in the fire service at RAF Lyneham.

He was a member of the Wootton Bassett Conservative Club for many years, and as the club’s entertainments secretary he organised various events and discos. Although he was a quiet man, he was very popular, and had many friends.

Recently, when he had to rely on a wheelchair for transport, he enjoyed home life with his wife Muriel (nee Ogbourne) to whom he was married for 58 years, and their only son, Kevin, who lives locally.

The Rev Michael Jones officiated at the service in church and at the interment in the town cemetery. Memorial donations for Prospect Hospice may be sent c/o Maslin Funeral Service, 118a, High Street, Royal Wootton Bassett, telephone: (01793) 848700.
