Mrs Eileen Beatrice Reid (née Whitmarsh) has died aged 93.
She was born in Glastonbury and moved to Cocklebury Lane, Chippenham in the 1920s, living in a cottage at Self’s Farm where her father worked.
During the Second World War Mrs Reid worked as a railway clerk at Chippenham Station and was also a member of the original Monkton Hill Operatic Company.
She met and married Angus when he was stationed at RAF Yatesbury at the end of the war.
Known as Lyn and Andy to their friends, they moved to Edinburgh in 1946 before returning to Chippenham in 1947, after the death of Mrs Reid’s mother.
They lived in the Causeway until 1959 and then moved to Monkton Park.
Whilst raising their four daughters, Eileen worked around the St Paul’s Church area for the family retail businesses of Newmans, Barretts and Hurleys.
In later years she worked at the Chippenham Cattle Market canteen until losing Angus in 1993.
Her daughters said: “she still kept abreast of all the news and was in constant touch with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by us, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren”.
