Bradford born and bred, Mr Keith Uncles died on November 30 at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Mr Uncles was born on June 9, 1922 and was raised in Bradford on Avon, attending the parish primary school, which used to be next to Holy Trinity Church in Church Street.
Mr Uncles left education aged 15 and began to work for his father Berkley James Uncles, who owned the Trowbridge Road foundry of Berkley Uncles & Sons.

After a year of work, he left for National Service and served in Jerusalem before returning to his ‘beloved Bradford’.

Following on from his work at his father’s company, Mr Uncles was welcomed back to the town with a position at Avon Rubber as a rubber technician.

He enjoyed such ‘hands-on’ work so much that he stayed with the company until he retired aged 65.

Mr Uncles married his late wife Lillie in 1955 after they met at a skittles night in a pub in Widcombe, Bath. They were married a year later, and soon moved to live in Bradford on Avon.

Throughout his life, Mr Uncles was involved in many sports and, at an early age, he was fortunate enough to play for Bath United Football Club although he sustained an injury which cut his footballing career short.

Sticking to his get-go attitude, he then turned his interests to bowling and in the 1980s Mr Uncles played for Bradford on Avon and was selected for the Wiltshire county side.

Mr Uncles was best known to those closest to him as a man of good taste, particularly in his clothing, and made sure he was always wearing a shirt and tie.

He had suffered from ill-health and Alzheimer’s disease in recent years, and was saddened by his wife’s death last year. However, he still made sure that he had his weekly pint at his favourite pub, the Barge Inn, every Sunday.

Mr Uncles leaves his son Scott, daughter-in-law Carol and grandchildren Nathaniel and Sebastian.

His funeral will be held today (Thursday), at 2pm at Holt Road cemetery, Bradford on Avon.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
