Former referee of Bradford Town FC, Elaine Robinson, died on November 27 at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, aged 52.

Mrs Robinson was born in Hemel Hempstead on November 18, 1962, and attended the local school along with her older brother Richard.

In 1983, aged 21, she moved to Bradford on Avon after her parents, Jim and Dorothy Toley, became landlord and landlady of the Kings Arms pub.

This is where she met her late husband Mark and the couple married on January 31, 1987 at Holy Trinity Church. They went on to have three children, Mark, Leigh and Lauren, and two grandchildren, Jack and Teddy.

They lived in Trowbridge for a brief time before moving to St Laurence Road, which became their family home.

Mrs Robinson worked at Nutricia, now Cow & Gate, as a business analyst, amongst other things.

Prior to this, she worked for Cheltenham & Gloucester in Melksham before moving to Stevenage for two years after a promotion.

She is best known, along with her late husband, for being heavily involved in local sport.

In her youth, she competed both regionally and nationally in swimming competitions and it was her youngest daughter’s interest in gymnastics that led her to achieve a judging qualification.

Mrs Robinson was also involved in Bradford Town FC where she was one of the first ever female referees of a male side. Her husband played in the team at the time.

She later became club secretary.

Mrs Robinson was loved by many, including her grandchildren who often called her ‘nanny noo’ and she took early retirement in order to spend more time with her family.

Since Mr Robinson’s death last July, Mrs Robinson has been keen to raise money in his name and this summer she organised a fundraising golf day to mark his birthday.

She managed to raise more than £3,000 which was split between the British Heart Foundation and local sporting causes.

Mrs Robinson’s funeral will be held on December 18 at 10.45am at West Wiltshire Crematorium in Semington. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the British Heart Foundation.
