Charlie Sherman was a fun- loving, hard working and inspirational young man.

Mr Sherman died last Thursday in a collision in Bath Road, Devizes, as he was riding his motorcycle to work. He died two days before his 23rd birthday.

He was born in Frome and grew up in Seend and attended the village primary school. For the last eight years he and his family, parents Nick and Anna, and brother Rory, 18, have lived in High Street, Rowde, although Charlie had recently moved to Hillier Road, Devizes.

He attended Lavington School in Market Lavington and was a popular pupil and remembered for his enthusiasm to learn as well as his bubbly and happy personality.

He studied mechanical engineering at Plymouth University and had been an engineer at DTR VMS in Trowbridge for the past two years. Human resources manager Sian Widdicombe described him as friendly, very hard working, fun and a very talented engineer.

Mr Sherman had many close friends and he was devoted to his family. He and his brother, Rory, spent six months making costumes of characters from Star Wars to attend a Comic Convention at Earls Court, London.

His father described Charlie as “one in a million” and a “star”.

He could relate to people of all ages and his cheerful disposition always shone through.

He had been a member of Devizes Hockey Club for many years, joining as a junior and then returning as an adult when he finished his studies at university.

He was a defender in the first team, along with his brother Rory, and helped the team win the league and gain promotion last season.

Coach Ollie Smith described Charlie as in integral part of the team, both on and off the pitch.

Mr Sherman was also instrumental in helping Rowde Youth Club get a skate park in the village.

His funeral service is on August 1 at St Matthew’s Church, Rowde, at 10.45am.
