Former Trowbridge firefighter Mr Hugh Stanley Cook died at Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, on March 21.
Mr Cook, 70, who was known to friends as Hughie, was originally from Huish Episcopi, in Somerset, and moved to Devizes with his family when he was a child.
He worked for Avon Rubber in their fire brigade before joining Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service on his 31st birthday.
He was based at Trowbridge Fire Station throughout his 24-year career with the service.
Hughie married his wife Diane at St James’ Church, in Devizes, in 1965. The couple first lived in Melksham and moved to Trowbridge when Hughie joined the fire service.
They had two children, Amanda and Nicola. Hughie was also a devoted grandfather to Cameron, Elliot, Olivia and Phoebe.
He enjoyed holidaying, hosting barbecues and spending time with his family.
Mrs Cook said: “He was a happy family man who was always life and soul of the party.
“He was a great husband, father and grandfather.”
His funeral took place at West Wiltshire Crematorium, in Semington, last Wednesday.
Donations in his memory can be given to Kidney Research UK.
