We want your nominations for the 2017 Wiltshire Sports Awards, which will see the county’s sportsmen and women, clubs, organisations, schools and volunteers recognised early next year.

The Swindon Advertiser, Wiltshire Gazette & Herald and Wiltshire Times have teamed up with Wiltshire & Swindon Sport to launch the awards to recognise the achievements and contributions of athletes, coaches, teams, clubs and volunteers throughout Wiltshire in a special ceremony at Devizes’ Corn Exchange in January.

Nominations can be made by completing the form here by November 3, after which a panel of judges including group sports editor Owen Houlihan, Wiltshire & Swindon Sport’s CEO Steve Boocock and 1968 Olympic Games 400m hurdles gold medallist David Hemery will meet to decide on the winners.

Two of the most coveted accolades are likely to be the Sportsman Of The Year and Sportswoman Of The Year. It’s been another fine year of sporting achievement, both local, nationally and internationally for many Wiltshire competitors, but whose success or performances do you believe has captured the imagination of the county? We’re looking for the male and female sporting figures whose achievements stand out from the rest and have helped to put Wiltshire on the map.

Wiltshire is packed with sporting talent from the younger generation and the Junior Sports Person Of The Year award, will recognise the youngster who is already making a significant impact in their fledgling career. Eligible to someone aged 16 and under during 2017, the award aims will showcase the strong progress of a young competitor in the county, someone already laying down a marker for future sporting success.

Disability sport continues to go from strength to strength, not least in Great Britain where the success of our athletes at last year’s Paralympics as well as London hosting the IPC World Athletics Championship this summer has once again thrust them into the limelight.

Wiltshire’s representation in disability sport has been strong in recent years, with the likes of swimmers Stephanie Millward and Aaron Moores and para dressage queen Anne Dunham blazing a trail for the county and the winner of our Para Sports Person Of The Year award, will be someone whose 2017 achievements stand out.

Many of our county’s sports clubs have enjoyed their own success stories in 2017, with a multitude of titles won, cups lifted and promotions earned in their respective fields, but which organisation has stood out for their progress and results? We’re asking for your nominations for our Club Of The Year accolade to recognise one such body’s the outstanding sporting achievement. Whose success stood out and why in 2017?

Many clubs and organisations boast a whole host of different teams, be they age-group or respective gender line-ups, but do you know of a team whose performances mark them out for special recognition in 2017. Perhaps they have swept through their respective campaigns unbeaten, have tasted success for the first time, or have delivered a vast improvement. Two such teams will clinch our Team Of The Year and Junior Team Of The Year (16 and under) awards.

Behind many a successful team and individual is the guiding hand of the coach or manager directing operations. We want your nominations for our Manager/Coach Of The Year award. Who do you believe deserves to be saluted for their success, be it masterminding a team or club to sporting success or the coaching guru behind an individual’s special achievement?

We’re also looking for a phalanx of winners in our awards that throw the spotlight on those hundreds and thousands of those quietly going about their business to ensure the infrastructure, facilities and framework is in place for the successful running of sport in the county.

The Volunteer Of The Year award, will recognise an individual who has selflessly devoted their unpaid time to ensure the smooth running of a sport, club, organisation or other body in the county.

Perhaps you know someone who would be a deserving recipient of our Unsung Hero award. We’ll be recognising the individual who has made a sizeable contribution to his or her sport, often without the recognition such commitment deserves.

Our Community Award, will throw the spotlight on an individual or organisation that has done so much to bring the power of sport into their local community.

For the School Sport Participation Award, we're looking for the school that has put the provision of sport for their pupils at the forefront of their thinking. It might be a specific school sport project that has been launched with great success, or an existing programme that has captured the attention of pupils.

Finally, we'll also be announcing a Special Achievement award at the awards night on Friday, January 26, next year.
