Young people's projects celebrated
A premiere event for Wiltshire young people celebrating their projects from the past year is taking place on Thursday.
More than 500 young people from across the county are gathering to attend 'WYPOF on Ice' at Club Ice in Westbury.
The event will be a celebration of all the projects which have been funded by the Wiltshire Young People's Opportunity Fund (WYPOF) over the last year and to promote the fund for the coming year.
WYPOF funding has been provided by the Government's Department for Children, Schools and Families and has been administered in Wiltshire by young people and Wiltshire County Council.
In the past year in excess of £215,000 has been given to various projects and events for young people, with an additional £180,000 being granted to capital works for young people.
Every WYPOF application has to be written by young people and all the applications are assessed by a panel of trained young people from Wiltshire Assembly of Youth.
At the ceremony eight of the most outstanding projects supported by funding from the WYPOF will use a range of presentations such as film and drama to show how their projects helped young people.
Examples of the projects include Teens on Tracks, a group support and life coaching programme for young people in Marlborough and The Lounge at Salisbury library, which created an area within the library especially for young people. Other applications included developing alternative sports programmes and activities for young people in Calne and Wootton Bassett, and helping young people in Amesbury achieve their Sports Leaders Award.
Each of the eight outstanding projects will receive a certificate presented by young people on the WYPOF judging panel.
