ROYAL Wootton Bassett Carnival celebrities, who were selected at at the ballroom of the Angel Hotel, will have pride of place in the town's annual Carnival on May 19. The procession will leave Marlowe Way at 4.30pm.

Carnival queen is Lucy Watson, 14, who is in Year 10 at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy, and enjoys ice-skating and trampolining.

The carnival king is Rowan White, 10, of St Bartholomew's Primary Academy.

Ben Edwards, nine, the carnival prince, is a pupil at Noremarsh Junior School.

Emily Lawrence, eight, of St Bartholomew's, is carnival princess.

The carnival page boy is Sam Edwards, four, who attends the Infant School. The baby butterfly princess is Marissa Taparek who, at 4 weeks old, is the youngest-ever Carnival celebrity.

Compere for the afternoon was Cllr Steve Bucknell, in one of the last duties of his Mayoral year. His successor, Cllr Mike Farrow, shared judging duties with Jade Dando who became Miss Beauty UK in January, and Sheri Harvey, Young European International Miss Wiltshire. As regional winner, Sheri will compete for the national title in November.

Carnival committee chairman, Barbara Sealey, thanked everyone for supporting the popular prelude to the carnival that coincides with Prince Harry's wedding day.
