TWO years after sporty youngster Daniel Climance died in a road sweeper accident, colleagues of the boy’s mum are raising funds in his memory.

In June 2015 Daniel was hit by a road sweeper while out cycling with his family in Purton.

The Bridlewood Primary School pupil was a keen sportsman, winning a Tae Kwan Do black belt and playing for a Royal Wootton Basset Under-11s football side.

After his death, parents Helen Lucas and Stuart Climance set up a charity in their son’s memory.

Doing it for Dan now gives out thousands of pounds to help sporty youngsters and teams compete in their chosen sport. The charity invites grant applications from sports groups and young people in Wiltshire aged 21 and under.

Last year, Doing it for Dan raised £30,000 – funding sports kit, coaching and Wiltshire Council’s Funding Future Olympians programme.

Now, the charity has been given another boost – courtesy of mum Helen’s firm.

Swindon-based lawyers Royds Withy King have chosen Doing it for Dan as their main charity for the next two years.

Helen, an employment solicitor with the legal firm, said: “When I heard that Royds Withy King had voted for Doing it for Dan as their charity of choice I was genuinely surprised – and thrilled.

"It’s a relatively new charity and one which is obviously very close to my heart so the fact that my colleagues got behind it and wanted to support it when there are so many other worthy causes out there, is very touching.

“Daniel was passionate about sport and although he will never have the chance to fulfil his potential, we have an opportunity to help other young people to achieve their dreams.

“Once you get to a certain level, sport can be extremely expensive so through the support of Royds Withy King and the many wonderful people who arrange fundraising activities in Dan’s name, we can reach even more budding young sports stars.”

Staff at the firm’s Swindon and Marlborough offices have already got their fundraising efforts underway.

Last month, family paralegal Amy Light raised £850 for Doing it for Dan by running the Swindon Half Marathon. Receptionist Christine Beck took part in a sponsored skydive last week, raising £750.
