THE Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal is hoping to receive a boost to its funding battle this weekend when a fun day is staged this weekend.

Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Football Club will be hosting the fun day in aid of the appeal this Saturday, kicking off at midday. Organisers are promising a fun filled day, with pony rides, a fun fair, bouncy castles and more than 30 stalls, which will all be open until 4pm.

All of the local business taking part are supporting the Radiotherapy Appeal which recently hit the £450,000 mark in its fundraising appeal.

Brighter Futures’ launched the Radiotherapy Appeal last May in a bid to raise the £2.9 million needed to make radiotherapy treatment available in Swindon, meaning local cancer patients will no longer have to make the 70-mile round trip to Oxford.

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is working in partnership with Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust, to expand its radiotherapy service with a new facility at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

The £2.9 million being raised by Brighter Futures will fund the expensive specialist equipment needed to provide the treatment.

Chloe Thomas, community and events fundraiser for Brighter Futures, said: “It’s going to be a really fun afternoon, so bring your friends and family along and enjoy all the activities on offer.

“The support from local people has been amazing and we’re looking forward to seeing some of our supporters on Saturday.

“We’ve reached £450,000 but we still have a long way to go so the support of local people, businesses and organisations is essential. We need to pull together as one big community to make this happen. I’m confident that together we can bring radiotherapy to Swindon.”
