RESIDENTS in Royal Wootton Bassett are being urged to be extra vigilant following a number of incidents of criminal damage to vehicles in the area.

Since Christmas, officers have received reports of one or more people damaging cars in the areas of Woodshaw, Longleaze and Rylands Way, but not exclusively in these areas.

The local Neighbourhood Policing Team have increased patrols in the areas and have carried out letter drops urging residents to be mindful.

PCSO Jim Wale said: “Residents should remain vigilant and report to police any suspicious incidents where you believe that you have seen a person tampering with cars, and pass as much detail as you can to the call taker regarding the description of those involved.

"If you have had any of your property damaged, please ensure you report it to us on 101.

"If you see somebody acting suspiciously in the area or causing damage and the person is still in the area, call 999. If the person has left, call 101. Details can be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
