THE Mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett was treated to a beef and chorizo footlong, drink and cookie at the official opening of the market town’s new Subway store.

Ian Ferries was among scores of hungry customers dining at the High Street-based sandwich store at its official launch.

After the ribbon cutting footlong fans flocked inside with subs soon flying out the doors.

Pavan Bhakta, who heads up the new store and lives in West Swindon, said Subway was a welcome addition to the High Street.

“There’s been a really good atmosphere in here today, and the sandwiches and feedback have been really popular. People seem to be enjoying the day,” he said.

“I think people will be drawn to the store because it’s a good location, it makes fresh good food and there’s a great atmosphere in here for people to sit down and relax.

“Business has been really steady since we opened, people look like they’re comfortable sitting in here and that’s what we want

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the people of Wootton Bassett and serving some delicious food to them.”

The official launch followed an evening taster session where members of the public got the chance to try a selection of hot sandwiches.

And Swindon fans of the sandwich chain are already keen to sample the new menu.

Chan Chitroda, who lives in West Swindon, said he plans to become a regular at the new Subway.

“I’m excited that a new Subway has opened and I particularly like the fact they do good vegetarian options," he said.

"I’ll definitely be visiting again in the near future. All the food we’ve had today has been delicious.”
