GOLFERS can now sign up to tee off in aid of the Great Western Hospital’s charitable arm when the Rotary Club of Royal Wotton Bassett Town host their annual golf day competition.

The contest, which will take place at the Woodbridge Park Golf Club in Brinkworth on July 12, will raise money for Brighter Futures, which is attempting to raise £2.9m to fund a new radiotherapy centre at the hospital.

A Rotary Club spokesman said: “The competition format is the popular Texas Scramble based upon each teams stableford score over 18 holes.

"Teams will consist of four players with an entry fee of £20 per player which, of course, includes a coffee and bacon bap to send you on your way.

“There will be good range of prizes available for successful players and teams, including prizes for longest drive, nearest the pin and hole in one.

“The 2015 competition is to support Brighter Futures, the GWH charity.

“This centre will be equipped with two state-of-the-art linear accelerators to provide radiotherapy for cancer patients.

"Currently this treatment is only available at Oxford so a local centre will mean no more long journeys to Oxford and there can be as many as 37 of them for a typical treatment plan.”
