Youngsters got their first taste of business at a Progression Fair at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.
A group of Year 7 pupils set up a sweet shop in a classroom and did a brisk trade throughout the day. They acquired stock from their teacher, calculated prices, devised display notices and made vouchers that could be won in competitions organised by other classes.
The Progression Fair showcased higher education courses, apprenticeships and opportunities in a range of industries, including banking, agriculture, the armed forces and Network Rail.
Details of hundreds of available courses were on show and explanatory leaflets were available for students to take away.
Many of the stands were staffed not only by employees of the various concerns, but by university students and apprentices, who were happy to discuss their own experiences and to answer questions from young visitors keen to know about possible career options.
