Bright sparks from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy have won an electronics competition after illuminating a staircase with purple arrows.

The Year 13 students were at the University of Wales for a day of lectures and practical activities.

The concluding exercise required the students to use their technological skills to light one of the university buildings.

The team created purple arrows of light on a staircase and their efforts earned it the top award – a commemorative plaque.

The academy team, Fraiser Thomas, Christopher Dyer, Megan Emms, Thomas Gase, Kieron Lockett and Felicity Talbot, were accompanied by their electronics teacher Zack Ishani.

Mr Ishani said: “The students all did well, and the entire visit was very enjoyable and successful.”
