Bradford on Avon’s Olympic gold medal winner Ed McKeever is returning home today to meet his army of supporters.

The kayak king, who was victorious in the K1 200m at Eton Dorney, will be meeting fans at the golden post box in The Shambles, painted to honour his Olympic glory, between 3.30pm and 5pm.

Hundreds of people are expected in the town centre for the homecoming of the sporting hero.

Last week the 28-year-old said he was looking forward to seeing his home town again. He said: “It's been a long time since I’ve been there with all the training camps and everything I’ve had to do," he said.

“I’ll hopefully post a few letters in a certain post box too, as lots of people have been sending me pictures of their kids with it, which is nice to see.

“In general, the reaction has been great back in Bradford and hopefully there can be a bit of a legacy from all this too. Hopefully a lot more young kids will want to give canoeing a go.”
