Police are warning people planning to attend the Solstice tonight to be properly prepared for the weather.

People travel from all over the world to the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge and Avebury, with crowds gathering at the locations later today and throughout the night until the sun comes up tomorrow at 4.52am.

Superintendent Matt Pullen, who is in charge of the policing operation said: "The sun may be out today but the Met Office are warning heavy rain is expected throughout the night and we want people to be properly prepared for this.

"This year crowds will have to bring their wet weather gear so that they can stay warm and dry.

"We want people to have a safe and enjoyable Solstice and this includes being comfortable and not soaked to the skin."
