Public services students were put through their paces by the Royal Marine Commandos recruitment team recently at Wiltshire College Trowbridge and Chippenham.

The team visited the college to talk to students about possible careers and give them a taste of what would be involved if they choose to follow a career in the Royal Marine Commandos.

Students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma and Level 2 Diploma in Public Services took part in a variety of activities including circuits, an obstacle course and leadership and team building tasks.

They also watched a presentation about the careers available and capabilities needed to succeed.

Finally the recruitment team demonstrated a variety of combat techniques to a large round of applause and cheers from the excited students.

Lecturer Jamie Roach said: "Our courses have close links with the fire service, navy, army, police force etc and getting guest speakers into the college is a key part of the course.

"Speakers and activity days give the students a taste of everything that public services have to offer."

Level 2 student Joe Earaker, 17, from Westbury said: "The session really pushed me to my limits, it’s made me realise I can do things that I didn’t think I could do and achieve my goals.

"I’m pleased with what I’ve accomplished and I’ve enjoyed working as a team."

Level 3 student Samuel Walker, 17, from Trowbridge said: "I’ve enjoyed the team building, fitness, team work; it’s been harder than I expected, but good fun."
