Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the death of a 19-year-old soldier Michael Minns near Tidworth on Sunday.
Private Minns from the 9 Supply Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, was based at Hullavington. Civilian police were informed of the soldier's death when he became crushed under a vehicle.
A police spokesman said: "It would appear his injuries were sustained while carrying out a check on a vehicle prior to it being deployed on an exercise."
The tragedy occurred at Fowler Barracks located between Tidworth and Ludgershall.
Wiltshire Coroner David Masters was informed of the death and is due to open an inqueston Wednesday.
Police and the army have declined to give any further details or state where the dead soldier's family lived.
