TROWBRIDGE park and the bridge leading to Tesco have been cordoned off by police after a man was attacked during the night.
Police are guarding the scene between Brown Street and the bridge and forensic officers have been carrying out a search of the area and taking swabs.
There were rumours that a man had been stabbed but it is now understood a knife was not involved in the beating.
Wiltshire police are yet to officially confirm the nature of the attack.
