A NUMBER of Wiltshire home care staff were acknowledged at The Somerset Care Groups annual ceremony for their outstanding achievements, contribution and dedication.

The awards were held at the Somerset County Cricket Ground, Taunton and were hosted by Somerset correspondent for ITV News West Country, Ben McGrail.

Russell Bennet was crowned winner of Support Worker of the Year, and college Witold Wachelko received Highly Commended in the category Community Carer of the Year.

The Dignity in Care award was won by Selina Welch, Sue Taylor and Marie Johnson for their combined dedication they gave to a customer and their family during a difficult time.

Over 130 guests attended the ceremony, which included a three-course lunch and presentation by Chief Executive of Somerset Care Group Jane Townson, and the Group’s newly appointed Chairman Angela Dunpont.

Jane Townson said: “Our annual staff awards event celebrates some of the exceptional people we have in Somerset care.

“It’s my favourite event of the year, as we hear numerous stories of extraordinary kindness, compassion and service, which illustrates how we’re fulfilling our mission to enhance quality of life and promote independence of older and disabled people.

“We would be delighted for the world to see what these exceptional people do day in and day out.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to all of our staff for their passion, commitment and dedication to those we serve.”
